so, here's whats been going down up here in BC...
we got here friday morning by bus from vancouver. we then proceeded to find our condo, change, buy lift tickets, and head up the mountain. we chose blackcomb first and it was epic. it had been snowing for a while and continued to snow the entire day. they ended up shutting down the alpine lifts due to high winds but the middle mountain was great. we skied some great tree lines and didnt take too many pictures. the next day, we headed up whistler and explored that mountain. pretty much the same story as the day before. the really exciting part comes on sunday. we decided to get up early and try to get first chairs up because we had heard the alpine was going to open sometime that day and it hadnt been touched by anyone in several days and we had 3 feet of fresh pow. we ended up in line at the peak express chair only to be told it was going to be at least an hour before it opened (our ultimate goal was to get to the whistler bowls and ski untracked lines). to make a long story short, we waited in line for the most miserable 2 1/2 hours of my life. it was freezing - we couldnt feel our toes or fingers. we were about 20th in line out of about 450 people. it was nuts. there were front of line vs. back of line snowball fights (i'm talking huge barrages of 30-40 snowballs at a time), everybody yelling and stomping their feet at the lifties, and a huge wave going from the front to the back, all to keep the mood light. it was intense. finally, they opened it and we skied the most incredible runs of our lives. untouched, waist-deep pow in whistler bowl. it was nuts. people were wooping and hollering and when we finally got into view of the chair lift line, the people in line went crazy. we could hear the roar from 1000 feet above them. we made it back to the lift only to turn around and see a guy drop a 75 footer and almost stomp it. the scene is so insane here its really tempting to just stay. today,we hit up the parks and i jacked myself and probably got a concussion so i didnt do much. it was still fun though. the nightlife is pretty intense too but i'd rather be able to get up and ski then be hungover so we really haven't partied much.
here's a few pics...
the very top of that peak is where we skied down from
it got flat here and i got stuck but that's how deep it is...
