3 Jumps, 1 Landing

What are your feelings towards jumps that share the same landing. i think its a really bad idea, because if they are dif. sizes, it means different speeds so in turn more collisions. the only reason i brought this up is because, today i went off a jump like this, hit the biggest which is the middle, and out of no where, a kid comes of the tiniest one on the left, and i was jus finishing a 7 and my skiis hit his helmet, but luckily didnt hurt him, or me. if youve seen cab 7 small girl tap, it was pretty much the exact same thing, and i just dont want to see kids get hurt. i think jumps should be set up single and have the landings blocked so no one can go on it exept the jumper.

depends on how crowded the mountain is. Some places just done have enough space or money to build sperate different sized jumps so they have to do that. My mountain is always empty so its fine when they do that.

I want to see 1 jump, 3 landings, where the jump is a semi-circle that is tilted up, so the sides are the smallest, and the middle is the highest.

2 jumps for 1 landing is fine, maybe 3 jumps is pushing it. also it depends on the location of the park because everything from the amount of people riding the park to the visibility of the line can change. is it hard to see when people are dropping into that line at your club?

i didnt know people would drop at the same time on jumps like that unless you wanted to do that i just figured the mountain didnt have to much room and wanted different sized jumps. thats really sketchy

i had 2 jumps one landing before but they were big jumps with a big landing. well only one was like kicker big if ya know what i mean. my buddy and i did this huge transfer where i went over him, it was probably the scariest thing ever...felt like a total bad ass after doing it though so i love jumps like that hahaha.

i would have to agree with you, i mean i hate hurtign younger children, even when it is thier fault. large single jumps are better i think.

I always wait until I see the other person ski away on the other side of the jump, regardless of which they took, but it's hard on crowded days. who says they're going to stomp everything? it's irresponsible to start going before the other dude isn't even up the jump yet. it makes me nervous to try something new when there's a chance I'm gonna fall and get hit.

can someone please link me or embed the 7 to small girl tap? there has been lots of reference to it in the past 2 months but i could never find it when i searched!  yea they do seem sorta sketch jumps but if its at a place with like all pros or just ppl who can actually ski and take note of their surroundings there legit. never hit one though.

as long as the inrun for the 3 jumps is the same its fine . everyone will stop at the same spot before jumping . ive seen it work numerous times

i think same landing is the stupidest thing ever thought of. if ski patrol is gonna chase u down for goin down a trail with a couple rocks, wat better or safer is 3 jumps with 1 landing?

but i would love to see a 7 small girl tap

you could have like 4 jumps with the same landing just get creative, on each side have a hip, then a big hit and a small hit on the table or two big hits but it would ahve to be like 60 or more feet acrossed the top of the landing.

They have one of these in Highest level park on Blackcomb. I've never seen someone drop too close to eachother though...

yeah as long as the inrun for all three is the same then it should be fine although kids always find a way to come out of nowhere and get in the way

today some wiseguy decided to blow snow right at the top of the inrun to this qp type thing so that you couldnt see if anyone was hitting it until you dropped in it sucked

the biggest problem is matching the takeoff and landing.
usually, the biggest jump has too flat of a landing, making it dangerous.
the smallest jump usually also has the least amount of pop, so if the landing is set for the larger jump,
the small jump's landing can fall out from under you.
really, the safest way to build jumps is for each to have their own landing,
built so there is only a small impact upon landing.

yeah, landings are everything. I cased a 35 ft. jump because I didn't realize it's size and my legs weren't too happy with me.

the prob with the jump im referrign to is that the jumps are dif sizes, in runs are on dif sides of a pipe, and u need dif speed for each jump.   the two smaller ones are flat senders, and the big one is a booter, so youre coming down from alot higher than the other jumps, and way more air time, so even if they give u space you can still land on them.    alls i no is it scared the crap outta me to hit this kid, and i think he pooped in his panties. it also broke my brake and i had to bend it.

I think its a great idea that allows a feature to have multiple uses for different ability levels. It saves snow too, so that your park crew can go use that stuff to make things bigger and better.

As for the kids, heres the solution - Park Pass. I admit, I was skeptical when my mountain roped off the park this year and charged an entrance fee. But with rules stipulating things like ejection from the  park or getting your pass clipped or a permanent ban for doing stupid shit like using rail ride ons as jumps, ducking ropes, or hanging out in the landings, its cleaned up the park a lot and made it a lot safer. Gone are the trails of 4 year olds doing 'pizza' up and over the jump lines. Gone are the idiots who will ski down and park their ass near the landings of the big jumps to watch their friends try to go big. Its pretty simple in our park now - you call your drop and go, and you have a clear, open park to go and hurt yourself on.

Mind you, there are still gapers who's parents have stupidly signed the waver, but the park crew has recently been getting more aggressive in clamping down on stupid people doing stupid shit. I'm fully behind the idea of park passes now.

yea see i see exactly that point, like that it saves snow, multiple skill levels. i think thats great. i just like how ours is. it converges so that all three jumps are angled so every jump makes u land in the centre of the landing so you will hit someone going off at the same time as you. 

and to the park pass idea. i think this would be a very beneficial thing at our hill, seeing as its small, and theres a ton of people in the park. only problem is majority of the people go for park, so if you had to pay and take a short course, you lose some of your customers. that being said some of those customers you loose are likely to be the ones that are the dumb idiot who get hurt, and sue you.

i think its fine. where i ski if there is something like that, only one person will hit it at a time and if a bunch of people go at once there all kids who know how to ski and will land and ski out

I'm not sure how much I agree with the last part. I have a friend who isn't great and doesn't want to hit park features but there's no way I'd be hitting stuff without someone there to say do it- and I don't ski with anyone else usually. so if he's there by the jump I don't see what the problem is with him going around the features because he doesn't even hit them at all. and he's not sitting in the landings or anything like that because I'd bitch him out if he did.

those 3 jumps one landings are all my park had for jumps last year (we had 2 sets of them), and i do not like the idea at all, i landed on a kid and neither of us got hurt that bad but that was just luck, i think they should just make a park with the big jumps, maybe even that 2 or three of these jumps sharing a landing"to save snow", and have a completely different park with small jumps for the little kids,  what happened when i hit the big jump on the skiers right, the 10 year old hit the small one on the right with barely enough speed to make it up the lip then rode down the end of it then he took a sharp right into into my landing

I got a pretty solid concussion due to a setup like that back in '05; some dumb shit cut off the smaller right jump into the path of the considerably larger left jump, causing me to freak out, and just getting all kinds of fucked sideways bs and just chaos.

I don't mind multiple lips at certain mountains, but more often than not, multiple jumps to shared landings (especially jumps of varying sizes) is a recipe for disaster.

i guess 3 is one too many jumps to share a single landing but I really don't think it's that big of a deal so long as folks are being smart about it.  Then again, the problem is getting people to behave smart.  I guess gate off the in-run so that folks have to bottleneck and line up to hit the jump.

that still would not stop little people who can barely get enough speed to make it all the way up the jumps or people who dodge them and just hit the roller, which isnt a problem if they just stay in their lane, but they way to often to cut into the landing of the bigger jump(s). so i dont think gates would do a thing, but like you said some way to get folks to be smart would work

one jump per landing. it's hard enough to navigate through all the snowboarders without getting cut off, dodge all the gapers and dodge all the people littering the landing. jumps side by side is cool, but they ned there own landing, and word on the block off the landings that would be awsome.

They dont kick you out if you suck. They kick you out if you do stupid and dangerous shit, like buttering up rail takeoffs and standing in dumb areas. Before the most you would get would be shouts from people (Grant mostly) on the lift, but now, there are serious consequences if you're an idiot in the park. The park is a dangerous place if you dont respect the rules, and I think its good for a ski area to recognize that and make it safer for everyone (as well as covering their own ass if you're a douchebag like the dude at snoqualmie and decide to sue them).

we've got kind of the same setup and it really can lead to bad situations.  I see where you're coming from but you really do have to be smart enough to hit it when its safe to go.  If you can see the other 2 jumps(which i assume you can since you're in the middle) you should be able to see a little kid coming.  It is a bad setup but you've really just gotta deal with what you've got and don't complain.  If you don't like it go and ride somewhere else.

parks also need to leave areas for people to stand though. like for sessioning rails and stuff, give hikers some room. kinda like the edges or middles of skate parks where everyone just chills
