Soooo... read any good books lately?

couldnt tell you the last time i saw a book thread. im currently reading "unlikely destinations," the autobiography of the couple that started lonely planet guide books. its pretty cool, and REALLY makes me want to travel. im also re-reading "wind in the willows" for the first time in probably 10 or 12 years. its quite enjoyable. so, what are you reading these days?

the ancestors tale by richard dawkins is interesting, but its wayyyy too detailed to sit down and read for more than a half hour. my attention span favours fiction novels

^all good suggestions to mental note.

i'm wondering if anyone has read any good books that have anything to do with skiing/freeskiing. i've found doris lachapelle's book ( http://www.wildsnow.com/tips/booklist/book_review_lachapelle.html ) but haven't read it or even purchased it. everytime i go to amazon or something like that, i just killed with pages of ski-trip books, skiing for dummies, and the like. so if anyone knows of any good ski books or biographies (etcetc) throw them up here.

The last great book I read was The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen. It's seriously one of the most intense, hardest, and funniest book I've ever read. I suggest everyone to try and read it through.

great list! abbey is so great. kerouac is my all time fav. particularly desolation angels and lonesome traveler. life of pi is on my to-read list. isnt greg mortenson from bozeman? 1984 kicks ass. catcher in the rye? such a classic. vonnegut is always fun, though i havent read that one- breakfast of champions is one of my favorites.

He sure is!  He's an absolutely terrible public speaker, too.  But his book is really awesome, it should be recommended reading for everyone.  Not just to raise awareness for the Central Asia Institute, but also to help straighten out people's huge misconceptions about the area and its cultures/religions.

read a book called the match before christmas. its about golf. also sort of brief biographies of ben hogan byron nelson ken venturi and charlie ward.  if youre a golfer you would probably like it.

i dont usually read for fun, but my history teacher from 9th grade, who was extremely wise said it was the greatest book ever written, so im in the midst of the 800+ page novel "The Brothers Karamozov" by Fyodor Dostoyevski. Its taking forever, but a pretty good read. I plan to read "Crime and Punishment" afterwards, by him.

Im going through a Jack Kerouac phase; I've read On the Road, Dharma Bums, and Big Sur.
All of the books are really good.  They are not too exciting like the Harry Potter series.

I just got back from Mexico, read the Jimmy Buffet book, "A salty piece of land" such a chill ass book, Jimmy Buffet is the man haha.
For my english ISU we had to do it on a piece of Canadian literature and I read No Great Mischief by Alsitair MacLeod which was also a pretty tight book.

Last good book i read was "Angels of the Universe", by Einnar [sp] Gudmundsson, about a schyzophreniac man and his evolution through life. It was quite touching and really awesome.

The other day my dad suggested me to read Interzone by William S. Burroughs (pretty odd since it tells about a junkie faggot, Burroughs himself). I read it and absolutely loved it. I've read Burroughs' Junkie too and I'm going to read Naked Lunch, Ghost of Chance and The Ticker That Exploded too, since my dad has them all.
I just finished reading Ham On Rye by Charles Bukowski, which I liked alot too.

i think it would freak me out if my dad ever suggested burroughs to me. ive only read naked lunch. it was really awesome, but pretty damn disturbing. and a little awkward when someone asks you what its about. "well, its about this heroin junky that likes to fuck young boys...."
