Computer help please

Alright, THis is for people who know a good deal about computers. I have this virus on here that i cant get rid of and I have some questions. Fisr of all the virus deleted the conrtol panel and is creating restrictions on a lot of basic stuff. Its a dell inspiron E1705(and I dont need any shit about it being a Dell, I ask for anything but a Dell but....I got a Dell for college about 1.5 years ago.)

If i format the c drive does that get rid of everthing including the operating system (XP)?
Will that even get rid of the Virus?

I might have to bring it to this computer place i know, they might fix it. But I was wondering if any of you knew anything I could try. Im not worried about loosing information, i backed what i wanted up on a CD but can I just reset the compter with the factory defaults so its like brand new? I have been wanting to get a new hard drive what was bigger than this one but I want to wait and use this one while it "works".

If you have everything backed up, then i'd suggest resetting it.  The computer should have came with a disk that restores it to factory settings.  Basically it just deletes everything on the computer and reinstalls the basic functions of Windows.  That's what happened with my computer, i have a Dell too. I took it to Best Buy and spent about 200 dollars to have them flatten it. If you lost the disk call Dell and ask for another one.

go to grisoft.com and download and install the free version of AVG. It could probably get rid of the virus. If that doesn't work try system restore. If that doesn't work find your windows xp cd that came with your computer. It might not have come with one, if thats the case look through your manual and their should be something about burning a restore cd and that will give you directions on how to reformat your hard drive and bring it back to how it was when you bought it. If you do that you'll lose all your information.

try what they said, then get yourself a good antivirus program like Avast or Norton (I like Avast better, but  Norton's good too, it just takes forever to load up)

i'd back up your files and do a clean format.
