Why do a swich 5 when you could do a cab 5?

I also ride wakeboards in the summer time and I could never understand why some of the terminology is so different...

what I'm talking about is doing spins switch.    in most sports (and in wakeboarding),  whenever you start switch and land regular, it is called a cab-spin.  But this is not the case for skiing.

for example, in wakeboarding, a switch 180 would be called a half cab.  a switch 360 would still just be called a switch 3.  a switch 540 would be called a cab 5.  a switch 720 would still be a switch 7.  a switch 900 would be a cab 9.

But in skiing,  it seems everything is just called switch and not cab.  Why is this?  And is it wrong to call it cab?

 a full cab is switch frontside 360 on skateboard isnt it... try that on skis now..

yea but on a wakeboard, its still called cab and you are attached to the board (just like skiing)

no, its fakie fs 360, off the nose(what would be your tail going forwards), sw fs is sw fs.

You use this when you do a 180 at the begining of a spin before it becomes a d-spin, flat spin, ect.
Like you would say half cab flatspin 540 is a regular 180 to a flatspin 540 in one trick. At least thats the way I learned it.

Yea it is when you just do a sw 180 but like Often when I do "cork 5's" only 360 of it is corked the other 180 is just reg so prbly more technically itd b called a cork 360 half cab.

I always just say either because skiing doesn't have frontside or backside or anything like that. So we can say switch, cab, who cares its all just backwards.

Only problem is that the rotation isn't different like cab is sw frontside, and sw backside is sw backside.

if there is no frontside or backside in skiing, then how would you get credit for spinning in your "unnatural" direction (which would be backside on a board for most people)

i like it! cause taking off sw and landing sw is so different than taking of switch and landing foward. i feel like a switch 7 feels more like a  sw 3 than a sw 5. and if the terminology should reflect that.

there is no reason  cab can't be the same as switch as they are both switch tricks and skiers don't really have a back/front side...

Cab is meant to be strictly a skateboard term and that is all.  Wakeboarders used to say cab but they no longer so everything is just switch or regulsr just like skiing.  Steve Cabelaro(i think thats how you spell his name) would be pissed if he heard or read this thread. oh and he is the guy that invented cab in skateboarding.

last post very true. skiing you can not do anything CAB. the term does not apply to skiing and barely snowboarding, stop poaching and using it....you sound like total poser lame fags when you say, "yo, i just did the sickest cab 5!" you didn't do anything cab, you simply did a switch 5. when will skiing stop biting snowboarding, snowboarders don't bite skiing at any place at any time?

no such thing, cab is a skate term for fakie frontside, which is different than sw fs because its a fakie ollie(which is the switch version of a nollie).

snowboarding and skiing are both guilty of using the term improperly. No one is popping fakie on their switch frontside 900s snowboarding, and skiers dont even have a fs or bs, so its even worse with skiing.

Lots of snowboarders do real cab stuff jibbing, just not off big jumps.

because when you are riding regular on a board, backside is rightside, which is usually unnatural. just because they are on snowboards doesnt mean they can just magically spin both ways equally.

cab is taking off siwtch and landing regular ??  what the hell ?  ask snowboarders what a cab 7 is for fun...
cab is just switch frontside on a snowboard (and fakie frontside 360 in skateboarding), no matter how you land.

correct.
the term cab def originates in skateboarding. transferred to snowboarding--anything switch fs.
and ive heard people use cab in place of switch in skiing too.
bottom line...skateboarding is cool.
