Mounting binding story

i asked for the shop guy to mount my skis true center and i get my rossignol ghetto back and theres like 1.5 inches more tip than tail which really pisses me off because in my whole life ive never had a ski mounted how i wanted it to be, shop guys are retarded and dont understand why anyone would want a mount like that.

A few weeks later my bindings break from all the stress put on it over the past year. No big deal ill buy another and get my skis mounted how i want.

 I take them to a different shop where i can get it done for free and ask for true center. I get the skis back and they look exactly the same as how they were before so im getting heated and storm out.
I get home and measure the binding with respect to the ski and see that the dumb fuck put the bindings on the same place the old ones were, which means there drilled into the epoxy so its not safe at all and can rip out very easy. then i see that the bastard actually put one binding 1 cm farther back than the other. at this point im pissed off but i dont want to fix it because there are already to many holes in the ski and i dont want to bother having the shop warrantee them because it will take to long.

I ski on the skis and they work out great and i cant even tell the bindings are off.

A few weeks later I get a letter in the mail saying that the dumb fuck got fired from fucking up to many skis and that i need to bring my skis in the get them inspected. the shop guys inspects them and finds all the flaws that i found and says he cant re-drill them because there are to many holes. he says he can give me a pair of K2's in exchange for my skis and i say no way. then i ask the shop guy some questions about true center, he has worked there for years and seems to know what he is talking about. I don't no if im wrong but he says true center is the marking on my ski that says standard/traditional. I say no because that would make the tip much longer than the tail but he continues to say im wrong and he no's what he's talking about. i tell him that true center is when the tip and tail are exactly the same length from the center point of the skis and he still continues to disagree. He tells me that you cant mount skis at true center because skis aren't meant to do that. then i tell him that people mount there skis forward of center and he doesn't believe what im saying at all. I just got fed up with the guy and walked out and hopefully now my bindings rip out so i can make that shop buy me a new pair and mount them how i want them to be mounted.

draw a fucking line on your skis if you want them mounted properly man.

as for mounting one binding further back than the other - thats pretty bad.

wow, thats just genius, what a tool, yeah he fucked up super bad but u should draw a line next time so if they fuck up u can be all like "i even drew u a fucking line at true centre what more do u want?"

what k2's did he offer? i would have taken it, cause you probably could keep your old ski anyway if they apparently 'can't be drilled again" but these guys sounds like they dont know what there talking about, and you can drill a ski up to 4 times without having to worry much about structural integrity.

In a perfect world, yes.  But the problem is usually hole interference, not the number of times drilled.  For example, this fall I had to comprimise my mounting point a bit on a pair of skis that had been mounted once.  Now they're pretty much shot for FKS mounting unless you have a 307mm bsl--you probably can't drill for anything else save for maybe AT bindings, either.

I asked for me PEs to be 2 cm back from center like 4 years ago, dude comes back and the rear binding is (I'm not shitting you) no more then 2 inches from the tail.  He looks at me and goes "I fucked up didn't I" and gets me a new pair off the rack.

fugitives i didnt see them though. I was thinking about taking the offer but i hate k2's and i didnt really feel like going thru the hassle of taking the bindings off them and remounting them again on the rossis creating more holes

its all up in the air right now. One guy told me he could do that. this whole problem is being brought up to the manager of the store. I have to go back again so they can test out the bindings and i have to sign a paper. ill ask about it tomoorow

You said he offered you new K2s in exchange for you skis? Just ask for the K2s and just keep the ones that are mounted. The shop will have no use for a badly mounted used pair of skis.

We did this for a kid recently that one of our guys fucked up on. He dimpled the base really badly on his TMs so we got him some barely used ex-demo Foils. Then we fixed up the TMs pretty well. So he's skiing the TMs now and has the Foils as a backup once those die.

Your an idiot, you can remount bindings in the same holes as many times as you want, it doesn't make it unsafe unless they are stripped out. know your shit before you make a thread about it.

Another noobish statement, nobody uses epoxy to plug holes, unless he did it himself, whick is retarded. They make these things called "HOLE PLUGS"... and we drill into them all the time.

Give the shop guys a break man. Yeah they fucked up, it sucks, if they offer you free skis to compensate for it and you turn 'em down, well... you're not that smart.

But you have to realize that not all shop guys are 18-25 year olds that know everything about twin tips. Twin Tips are probably less than five percent of what they mount. And true centered skis are probably less than one percent. Talk to the shop guy before hand and make sure he knows where you want it mounted or draw the line yourself. You can't ask for a special mount job and without actually talking to the person mounting your skis.

As for the one binding being mounted further back than the other, that's just messed up, and according to your post they fired the person who did it and took care of it.

Also, don't just say, "Mount it center," or whatever. On the work ticket make sure it's written center mount or something.

this is the key, after you get a couple bad mounts you learn that if you want something done right, you must do it yourself..... i always measure myself and draw reference lines for them, and make sure you point out what the line is for.....

no ticket. for both times it was on the spot mounting and i was basically talking to the guy the whole time he was doing his job

When you measured you ski to see if it was "true center" did you measure from where the middle of your boot would hit the ski or did you measure the tips and tails from end to binding? I made that mistake once cause i thought that how it was but the thing is if your skis are centered usually the tail comes out longer (tip to binding).

No ski should ever be "true" center. the scoop on a tip is always longer then a tail. Basically if your tip is 5 inches long your tail will be like 4. a center or even forward mounted ski is just stupid. If you came into our shop and asked for that id take your money and mount them how you asked. but speaking from experience and lots of skis under my feet over the years. never go true center.

unless its a symmetrical ski in which the tip and tail are the same width...

here's a good mounting story for you

my brother and i went to the shop to get his new Vokle bridges mounted.. about an hour later they called him to let him know that they don't have a jig wide enough to fit his ski. it's 92mm.

i feel ya, its so frustrating when shit that that happens.  three years ago, i asked for my skis to be more or less two centimeters behind true center, and i get them back only to discover they mounted them two centimeters in front of true center, meaning i had more tail than tip.  the guy refused to acknowledge he screwed up, and wouldn't even re-mount them unless i paid him even more.  i don't shop at that store anymore.

that happened to me too, the dumbass tech forgot to put the riser plate on so the screws went too deep and dimpled the base. we gave him a new pair and stone ground the fuckups a few times and i have them at home now waiting for some bindings.
