ok so i feel like im really behind cause my friend out in CO ive seen him in some vids and he is really sick (kid with ronin suit in keystone opening day video). this is making me feel really sucky and i guess this is kinda a dumb question but is the best way to progress to just like huck..i mean like if i wanna get better on rails dont be afraid to do a bunch of sit just go for a 270/450 etc disaster and deal with the consequences or go for a cork 7. i dont think anyone will understand this but if you do tell me how you guys make your major progression
just gotta try new shit man, im not that good myself, but we all know that feeling you get when you stomp a new trick, and after you dial that trick it just boosts your confidence to try harder shit and the cycle continues
yeah just practice i guess if you try to do something over and over again that isn't working you probably won't get it but work on slowly progressing stuff thats why you got to ski alot
Your friend may be good, but it is what makes you happiest that matters in the end.
Do what you want to, progress at your own pace, find a group of peers who encourage, support, and push you a little every day, and you will get better.
this post has nothing to do with progression but about feeling sucky.
2 weekends ago i was skiing by myself and i was skiing trees. and i was going and i came to this turn i had to make quickly, but i just stopped. 1 because i was scared 2 because i was tired.
and i stood there for a minute and was like, i really suck at skiing.
then i did that run later in the day and i slayed the shit out of it and didnt stop once.
i say it was because it was my warm up run.
I read somewhere about progression and the person put it like this:
Don't go out and try a 900, if you can only do 360s. But if you can do 360s, go out there and try a 540.
What this person is saying is if you have checked off a trick on your list, then it is time to try the next trick up, don't waste time being afraid. But don't try a massive trick if you haven't gotten the basics down.
Ski with people who are better than you.... if you really want to get good, ski with people who are WAAAAYYYY better than you.
Yes you can practice all you want, but if your practicing the wrong way, then it doesn't mean shit. If you ski with people who are better than you, chances are your gonna see something sweet, or something you've wanted to do and they can help you out.
Seriously though... seeing the trick both in your mind, and actually seeing it are half the battle. The other half is thinking and beileving you can do it.... oh yeah i forgot...then theres that whole part about actually doing it :o)
I've progressed so much this year compared to last it's amazing. The only difference is that I've been skiing a lot more. I try to get out to my hill at least 2 times after school, along with the weekends. It's pretty much proven that if you go out and ski a lot you will progress. Weeknights/afternoons are the perfect time for learning because my mountain is always dead. No lift lines whatsoever so I just lap the park. I've also been skiing with people much better than me. It's always been a natural tendency for me to try to keep up with them, so I tend to push myself much harder. But I've also learned some new stuff by myself as well.
Bottomline, get super committed to skiing if you want to progress. Just get out there man, as much as possible. Being a weekend warrior will get you nowhere.
