Salomon Ghost Boot 08-09

Salomon will likely increase it's lead on the freestyle / freeski world with the launching of it's new Ghost boot in 08.

The concept of the boot is basically the expansion of 2 buckle SPK story but with the fit of a Falcon shell. What this all means is an SPK inspired boot for guys/girls who are also out of the park and require a little more then a skate shoe fit (which is SPK).

The flex will be 110 (kinda like an old Xwave or newer Impact 10)

This boot looks killer. As do the rest of the future SPK's.

Salomon is on top of the freestyle world!!

So basically it's a two buckle Falcon? For people who want the Falcon fit but don't want to be held in as solid? I don't get it. There is no need for this boot.

can some one who reads French and writes English tell me what the fuck those geniuses were thinking when then thought that a two buckle big mountain boot would be a good idea. shit the spk would be better if it had another buckle on the calf.

Hmm, I don't know about you guys, but I like to have control and precision in my boots. I see this as a step backwards, fueling comments like the original poster's that "Salomon is on top of the freestyle world!!" and making kids choose their boots based on hype and fashion over correct fit.

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the Gun boot already aimed at freeride, and it also uses the falcon shell?

So this boot is basically a 2 buckle gun?

good work salomon, ya retards. who needs precision bombing down huge faces and launching off cliffs? how could precision help you in that situation. hell freeskiers should just save money and use lace up snow boots!

Many of you for which french is not your 1st language take the french jib talk way toooo literally.

Basically the tape recordings are a recorded think tank sessions with athletes. These are brain storming sessions with product for freeriders.

The concept of the boot is the genisis of an SPK boot of the perfomace of the very succesful falcon Gun as a top freeride boot.

I have falcon guns and would love the spk look but I want it to be even more freeride. So this is going to be a the boot for me!

It's also cool to read this cause it kinda showcases riders actually being involved in the product development.

Agreed Elipse had potential but Ghost will have the performance of a falcon.

This boot is going to have great success. It has all the elements. We are looking for.

Falcon fit with SPK 2 buckle skate fit having a sick 110 flex of SPK (rep told today at boxing day sale). This is my boot nex year hands down.

The locations of the SPK buckles is amazing, so for them to perfect the Spk fit with some elements of the falcom fit will call out all the riders who used to race but now are into the free ride part of skiing.

will some one please fucking explain to me why you would possibly think that two fucking buckles might possibly be better then 3 or 4. For fucks sake, the lower buckle on the current spk is in the wrong place, it should be closer to the tow, and adding a second buckle on the top part would be much better.  And for the idiot of a French man or French Canadian or new Ginnie or where ever the fuck you are from please tell me why you would ever view a skate like fit as a plus in a high end free ride boot. do you like broken ankles. This boot is the most retarded idea I have seen since the bio metric tow piece.

dont knock it till you try it.
easy in and out, snut fit, comfy, torsionally rigid, just the right amount of support= best boot ever.
they have a normal last to them, they dont have a skate shoe fit. I had pro models for years and when I switched to spk's I wondered how the hell I ski'd in race boots. NO shin bang, NO toe mashing, all fun!

I have tried them and I though they might be ok for park skiing, as long as you did not try and do anything else with them, they just did not pull your foot in the same way that a 4 buckle boot does. and then there is that retarded vertical stance shit.

ive hiked in them, ive parked and urbaned in them, Ive hit jumps cliffs rails rollers gates deep snow, soft n hard pack, fuck it, ive done it all in them and theyre the best boot for me ever. But thats for me, you probably didnt have a pair that fit properly. In fact if that is what you think about regular boots, you dont have a pair that fit right. Your bottom straps shouldnt even be hardly done up. Again, dont knock it till you try it.

for the sake of humanity I hope you are in no position whatsoever where you might end up giving boot advice to people. there is only one strap on a boot and it does need to be tight. There are 4 buckles. the toe buckle should be buckled fairly tight, the one across the instep does not need to be tight or even buckled for some people. then the top two should be fairly tight as well. Having both of those buckles is fairly important because you use them to pull your foot into the back of the boot.
And I know when a boot fits right and when it does not. The SPK works for me fit wise. It just has a week and unsecured feel to it.

salomon 110 flex is WAY too stiff for freeride

xwave 10's are 110 flex for fucks sake, and i can't imagine why salomon would change their flex index across different styles.

if this boot was the same flex as the gun boot, i would absolutely be on board, but a 2 buckle freeride boot with a flex bordering on lower end race boots? my shins say no thank you.

Just buy the Gun then. The liner on the Gun is really nice. The one on this new booth will likely be one of the lower ones.

I have tried the ghost and I am mixed in opinion. Firstly, it has a weird step-in, making the boot near impossible for SOME people to get on - for me, it was fine. It is alot stiffer than the SPK boot, but compared to the current 4 buckle ghost it is noticeably less stiff.

I think the boot would appeal to  people wanting a backcountry freestyle boot and less  freeride.  I was looking for a freeride boot, and I think the ghost fails to provide enough stiffness and security for hard line charging. On the other hand, as a BC freestyle boot it would be great. the ghost is stiff enough for general BC skiing and then great for powder landings switch etc.

they're in the running when i get new boots. i'm in rampages right now and like the flex and fit for the most part, the liners are just falling apart on me after a full season of riding in them. i'm hoping i can get my feet into some il moros though.

the toe buckle is essentially a waterproofing device. it does FUCK ALL.

and the instep buckle will pull your foot into the back of the boot, it is a very important buckle.

The top 2 are certainly important to keep your foot stationary.

you would be supprised how much power is transmitted through the toes, that buckle is very important. The instep buckle just pushes down on the top of the foot, cutting off circulation.

I disagree. The most important buckle is the instep. It is the only buckle which provides foothold.

You can take away 1 first without giving up performace but not the instep buckle.

no if you have talked to any bootfitters you would know that the instep buckle really does not matter. all that matters is that you dont tighten it to much and cut off your circulation. that said, the two buckle doesnt matter much either, but it should still be tightened. the instep does not need to be tightened. the two buckles on the calf are what really matter

if your ratcheting it down hard your boots obviously don't fit properly.

I can only "fucking explain to you" that I haven't ever gotten shin bang with my spks. I don't know shit about buckles, or anything. I had shitty 400 dollar "rossi" freerride boots, my shins hurt, sometimes rurl bad. Then I dropped 200 on spks and it went away. That's all I can tell you.
