i used the search bar and found absolutly nothing.
I've got some Elizabeths ([172cm] 139 / 110 / 137mm) and am looking to get some skins for them. I assume that you would want the skin to be a bit bigger than the underfoot but am not sure.
just looking for some confermation

I don't tour but I've trimmed them up for lots of people. I've been taught to trim 1mm in from each edge so that the edges are just showing. So the wider the better really because those tips are huge. It's not critical that the full width of the tip is covered, even less so with an early rise or rockered ski.

you want them to cover up the ski as much as possible so you get as much traction as you can. so go with something atleast the waist of your ski. be sure to trim them correctly though, just like ^he said. you want your edges still sticking out, just cover up the base so you can still use them, or you'll slipe in switchbacks and certain snow conditions. most skins are measured by the waist, and you can trim them any length. up to like 140mm usually. its easy. just take care of them and they will last along time.

Generally, you buy skins according to tail width. As you're going uphill, weight shifts to the tails, so that's really the most important part to get covered. You'll be fine with either 130mm or 140mm depending on how much you have to spend. I'd probably do 130 because it's cheaper.

Its kind of off topic, but what are skins, and what are they used for? Are they used as grip for climbing?
All times are Eastern (-5)
