Argh, why do people suck at mounting bindings?!

I just mounted 2 pairs of skis on my own. The shop messed mine up once, charged be $30 then another $30 to have them remounted. Never again.

that's lame, the remount should definitely be free, luckily they mounted them so far back that the extra holes wont be very close to your new holes I guess.

Yeah my shops fucking stupid, I get there, they said they'd be done friday at 6 pm, I walk in, they tell me they wont be done until saturday at 6 pm. I complain so they say they'll do them right away. 10 minutes later, the fat worker guy comes out and tells me my ski (watchlifes) are too "soft" and he must consult his boss, because he thinks that they are not solid skis. He says that little ski companies shouldnt be trusted, and that i should come back the next day. Fucking bullshit. First day SR has jumps and I'm sitting here doing nothing because my shop is retarded and doesnt know anything about skis.

if you had just drawn the line where you wanted the mount this never would have happened.

sorry, i would have a bit more sympathy for you but i'm sick about new threads every day about it. learn from others mistakes and those same things wouldn't happen to you.

I had a shop do my last pair and it was fine, but cost me $60.  I'm mounting my own skis from now on, I already did a pair and it's a lot easier than you think.  No shop mess ups and it costs nothing

I do know what I'm doing actually. My dad has mounted skis for 30 years. I've never had a pair rip out. I've had 2 pair from a shop rip out.

i was fortunate in that department since i worked with a guy who ripped, so he knew exactly what was up. i go to him for my bikes too. guy's gnarly as hell. you gotta scout the scene and find a tech who knows their shit. dont just wander in to some random shop and assume they know the dilly

Okay, I can understand that your angry you had to pay for the remount, but its your own fault this occured in the first place.

You should have taken on a little amount of responsibility and marked the skis yourself. You cant possibly expect a busy tech to measure your skis, when you could easily do that at home. Most techs, at least where I live are in their late 40's to 60's, and never grew up with twintips and "true centre". What a tech considors "true centre" is the centre of the sidecut, which is often the reccomended mark on a ski.

Its really getting annoying with all the "the tech messed up my bindings wahh wahh wahhhhh!" If you are super picky about where your bindings are mounted (giulty here!), mark them up yourself.

Here's how:

Get some scotch tape, and painters tape.

Cut a slim piece of painters tape, and tape it to the ski where you want them midsole of your boot mounted

Put scotch tape over it to ensure it doesnt move.

Tell the tech to mount your skis at the bright green line

Done!



Like the saying goes, "You want something done right, do it yourself!"

Always Always Always draw a line yourself, and make sure the tech that will be mounting your sticks knows that you want it on that line.

Don't forget to add to the beer fund to bring them some cookies or something, as teching is not the greatest job in the world.

Mount your own bindings....it free and its really easy. Doesnt take much to dot a pattern, and drill some holes.
