Dull ski edges

a ski shop... or if you want to do it, use a file.  you can allso buy this tool that you can use to dull or sharpen edges.

there is really no need to dull edges.  After a couple rails they will be detuned anyways

actually your edges will crack easier if you dont detune/dull them before hitting rails..

Wow, you really dull that aggressively? Can you hold an edge at all with the skis after doing that to them?

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I can't imagine trying to actually ski on something that dull.

I've never dulled edges on my park skis (other than detuning the tip and tail). I just start hitting rails on new skis and after a few laps they don't feel catchy anymore, but will still have enough of an edge to be able to carve on hardpack, ski the pipe, etc.

The first couple of rails on new skis always feel a bit sketchy but it's not really that bad. After about 20 or so rails they start to feel nice and smooth.

I just make sure to slide both directions a lot on day one, and also try to get some nose and tail press action, then you've pretty much covered everything and they'll be good to go after that.

I've always just thought that dulling edges probably takes off more edge than is necessary, so why not just let the rails do it and that way you still can have a little bit of edge left for when you want to turn.

Guess it's all personal preference.

Most good ski shops will sell a thing called agummy stone. Rub it on your edges and they will become dull. A cheaper alterntive would be some medium to high grit sandpaper. Same thing, rub it on your edges where you want it to be dull.

If you really want to be sure that you will never catch an edge, you can hold the ski at a 45 degree angle on a belt grinder, and when they get worn down a bit, round out the edges. That will make you basically have no edges, but they will still work for impact damage resistance. Doing it that way will make it so that you will never get your edges back, so try it on an old pair of skis if its is your first time.

if you have access to a base grinder you can make them like round underfoot by just going from almost flat on the grinder to right up on the edge it'll round them off nicely

otherwise just take the file and do what you want with them, cuz catching an edge is not fun at all

I sharpen my skis pretty often, detune the tip and tail, but I have never detuned underfoot.  Seems to work fine for the minimal amount of rails that I slide.

if you wanna mess up yor skis use a file if you dont wanna mess up your skis go to a shop one that you trust and you know is a good shop that does good work maybe the one that mounted your skis it wont cost much

^you would have to be pretty retarded to screw up de-tuning your skis with a file. its not rocket science. I would never waste my time going to a ski shop to get my edges de-tuned never mind paying them.

I just hit a few rails. Nothing serious, just flat bars and boxes. Left foot and right foot forward. Easy shit till they are dull. No spinning on or anything till they are done
