M2T files

I got the HV20 and when I capture footage from my camera I get M2T files which is probably what you guys also have. Now, what codec do you use to compress M2T files to another smaller but nice format?

Give me some details I just got the cam.

i use mpeg stream clip but i had to get the mpeg2 softwear unfortuneatly which cost me 19 dollars.  but i use it to convert the m2t files into avi files and then my computer can read them and i can use photoshop premier to edit the clips
