zunes are nasty as fuck. i had a first gen one (basicly a toshiba gigabeat player), and loved it. i still have it, and it still works, but the screen is smashed from landing directly on it on a bike crash. anything woulda busted.
i recently bought a new 80 gig one, and god damn they are sick. the first ones were def. nice, but the new ones completely crush anything that was out.
(before i get any further along, i used to be a die hard ipod guy, until they became real mainstream, and production quality went down the shitter), the old 15/20 gig ipods with the 4 light up buttons were amazing. i fucking loved mine, and put it to hell and back before the harddrive finally died.
anyway, back to the zune. if your on a budget, the first ones are sick too, specially since they run the new software. the interface on the device is way better, and the on-comp interface is pretty good too. honestly, i will say the OLDER versions of itunes were a tad more user friendly, but its still a pretty good interface, it just functions differently than itunes, so dont expect it to work exactly the same. once you get used to it, its fine. also, the widescreen video is dope, and you can just set the sucker on its side, and watch movies. also, the wireless update is a godsend if you use your player in the car alot, dont even have to take it out of the car at night, and its auto updated overnight.
only lil things that piss me off about zune? no fucking clock, no games (yet, they are coming), and the calender/notepad stuff on ipod is handy. i do like its basic PDA functions. but as an actual media player, the zune totally demolishes ipods, its a much nicer device. they are pretty indestuctable too. no need for a case.
