Marker still sucks - Broken Duke 2nd run

Second run on the new (suposedly bomber) Marker Duke, the middle screw, which is right under the boot, pulled out and the plastic snapped in half.  I did a little 180 to pow, felt a pop, looked down and i was in freeheel touring mode. 

I feel that this could happen to others, especially if hucking.  If a ski flexes reverse camber, the binding will naturally pull away from the ski.  There is a plate on the Duke that connects the toe and heel for touring, there is ONE screw in the middle that holds the lever down to switch from locked to free.  One fucking screw that keeps the whole thing locked.  If this screw pulls out, there is nothing that keeps it from moving, and snapping in half in my case.  So basically, fuck you Marker, your bindings still suck.

Yup.

I wonder if this is only a problem with the Duke. I'm not sure how much the mounting of the Jester differs. I was worried about these bindings durability.

Anyone have any problems with the Jester yet?

the duke seemed like it had to many parts. I have the jester and persoanlly love it. It is a very simple binding though. I dont trust things like the duke that have so many parts, its just complicates things

I know in your case, the screw unscrewed. But, in general, why not make that plastic piece metal? I know they are trying to keep the weight of binding down as much as possible, but you'd think that with current technologies they could make that part a lot more sturdy.

Exactly - it needs to be metal, it is also pretty difficult to get back into lock mode from free - and all the pressure will pull on that one screw, that hole has to be heli-coiled, and a pulled out heli-coil can ruin a ski

Sux to be u.  Mounted mine up, they tour great, i love the clunk when you click in.  Agreed that middle piece should be something other than plastic, but w/e.

Even though they are considered "bomber"  I really doubt they were engineered for Switch landings.

Come on - i did an 8 foot 180 - guys on TGR are saying that Hugo Harrison uses this all the time, and you can huck on it.  Who cares if i landed switch, it was an 8 foot air and it broke

That's exactly what I was going to say.  Touring bindings aren't made for that sort of thing;  a switch landing puts completely different forces on the binding that they can't really compensate for with a releasable heel.  So really, you can't say Marker sucks because their bindings don't do what they're not supposed to do.

Take it back then. One broken binder doesn't mean they all suck, way to generalize. I broke my Salomon bindings, do I think all of them suck? No, I got new ones. They work fine.

ehhh....salomon still sucks, unless its a 916, but this thread makes me worry, i know the dukes are a totaly different binding then the jesters, but i was gunna try something new on my skis instead of fks.....maybe ill give the sth16s a try

If anyone is mounting a Duke, i would seriously suggest you heli coil the screw that holds down the lever, seems i am not the only one.  There is way too much tension on that one screw

If you read the blurbs on the duke, they say they are bombproof and ect. Anything bomb proof should ease out of any 8ft drop, fakie or regular. For how heavy they already are, they had better hold up. This binding was meant to change the way we tour, not break like all the others. Sad, Sad, Sad.  I was going to regain hope for marker

how much do you weigh and how tall all you?
Maybe you just happen to have a weak plastic for yours.
And its not all lose because they are still under warrenty.
For comparison im 150lbs been riding my dudes for over a month and haven't had any problems with mine. I've taken them on a few jumps and a couple cliffs up to 20 feet, and have rode them hard in crud and chunder. And then a few weeks ago i took them off a bigger jump and broke the tails on my skis but the bindings held strong. I figured if i was going to break a pair of dukes then they would break before my new skis. And in fact the skis broke and the bindings didnt

my buddy has the jester and loves them he hasn't had any problems except he installed the break wrong but that wasn't the bindings fault

I never really liked Marker, but I kind of knew these bindings weren't as good as they were physched up to be. They use plastic components, meaning they really aren't going to be as strong as metal.
Look > Marker.

i got the jesters and they seem pretty sick so far. the toe piece has a tiny bit of wiggle though. took em back to the shop and the dood said he could fix it. think it has to do with my boot.

thats not good to hear. i bet whoever drilled ur bindings in could have stripped that back hole enough to make it pop out and snap that plate thing, sucks.

Basically everyone this year on Dukes (and Jesters) are the beta testers.  

They will see what happens this season now that they have a large group of people putting them through all kinds of different scenarios, and they will likely adjust the design accordingly.  By next year they should be even better.

d'nah, fks/p18s pwn noobs and the older p12/p14s were great, but yes no look heel pieces suck, i haventtried the new race stock ones, but i can only assume they will be like the normal px, which is a decent heel piece, just doesnt hole me in as well as 155s

The binding was designed for hardcore charging the likes of Hugo Harrison. Now ask yourself; how many times have you seen Hugo land switch?

Sucks you had to find out the hard way, but this binding wasn't the least bit designed for switch landings.

dude dont give up on em just heli coil it and put lock tight in the hole and if it does it again just get the warrenty again and then sell it i think i wasa defect was it one of the first ones?
