Pretzels definition

A pretzel is a spin out of a rail  spinning on the opposite direction of the way you actually got on the rail. It was at first a snowboarding manoeuvers and then we poached the name.
 In skiing, pretzels are a bit different since the  regular fs 270 out is a change of spinning direction.

basically if you want to do any kind of pretzels on skis, you have to spin at least 180 degree.
 so a siwtch up ( rotating 180 while sliding the rail) then psinning out the opposite direction is a pretzel spin out.

so  270 in spinning to the right and then spinning a 270 out to the left is a 270 in pretzel 270 out.

 right foot foward to fs switch up ( 180 to the right) tehn a 270 out to the left is a  fs switch up  pretzel 270 out.

450 on to the right  then 270 out to the left is 450 on pretzel 270

Ect

 switch on bs 270 out should not be  called a pretzel in the skiing  meaning of the words since there is no spins greater then 180 in it

good clarification. i think i remember seeing someone claiming a pretzel could be rotating 90 out in the opposite direction

could you do like a  left 270 on and 90 out and that would be a pretzel because your spinnig opposite off or like left 90 on and right 270 out and that would be a pretzel,if not, wat would you call it?

the first one would be 270 in, fakie out or something like that and the second is just (fs) 270 out.

i agree with this for the most part but what about going on forward then a fs 360 sw up to switch. that should definetley b called a pretzel even tho there is not a 180 degree spin b4 or after the sw up. it has two changes in direction and the latter one is extremely difficult. i call it a pretzel. sorry.

pretzel mean changing your spinning direction getting off switch is  not really a spion isnt it?? then why call it a pretzel.
pretzel makes sense only if you SPIN the oposite direction of the way you first spun.

Are fakie 270 to pretzel  270 harder then switch 270  blindside 270out?
 not really but they are still a pretzel.

If it's too hard for you to understand, just name it with the way you spun.

Ex: 270 in pretzel out is uin fact a 270 in blindside 270 out.

fakie 270 pretzel 270 out is a fakie 270  frontside (downhill) 270 out

i like pretzels to eat!

when people trow pretzels you see that they block with the downhill ski and keep looking up, then they trow the 270 out but are there some tricks to trow then easier?

it's really not that complicated.

spin in one direction, and then spin in the opposite direction.

So i have a n00b question...

If i go 90 to the right getting on, don't switch it up on the rail and then come 270 out to the left, would that be regular on, pretzel 270 out?

Or how about if i went 90 on, but kept spinning on the rail and then right before i got off, changed my direction to a 270 out, that would be one too. Right?

left 90 right foot on skier slide to right 270 off = skierslide pretzel 270 (PRETZEL = YOU BREAK THE ROTATION) 

left 90 right foot on, left 270 off = skierslide bagel (BAGEL = you complete rotation, do you skiers get it)

Skiing has basically stolen the term pretzel, and since no one actually knows what the true meaning of it is, everyone thinks it just spinning the opposite way on switchups and 270s on, wake up, if were gonna steal a term from boarding lets USE it correctly, it makes a lot of things not as confusing.

in skiing a pretzel has a different definition though, just like a mute grab in skiing is nothing like a mute in snowboarding.

 dude, i totally know the true meaning of snowboard pretzels.
 the skiers just took the name cause it sounded cool and  changed their definition a little bit.

 think  switch, cab and fakie are good words for going backward???
 none of them define going backward on a snowboard or skateboard. we still use them  all to define what we do when you ski down the hill ass-first.

agreed, it's dumb to attach the criterion that it be over 180. It makes a more compelling distinction if you keep it simple.

totally understand, i know, but.. i think for the better sake of skiing if we use the bagel, pretzel terms the same way as boarding... it will make stuff ALOT less confusing, skiing already sounds stupid for renaming tricks that already have names .... kangaroo flip = dub flatspin  dj flip= switch dub rodeo whiskey flip= double back (or whatever, double flair same thing more less). I jsut think its pointless that skiing is renaming everything, or using it to certain degrees. if we just actually used those terms for everything it would make life so so much easier, plus make are sport sound somewhat legit.

why do people need to argue anymore? ced's description is perfect. i think some people that aren't good enough to actally pretzel just want it to be easier so can say they can do them. i just cant, yet.

THIS THREAD IS SO WRONG HOLY FUCK!

pretzel = opposite spin as the previous spin. so fs 270 out is skierslide pretzel. just like it would be back or frontboard pretzel on a snowboard. doesn't have to be a fucking 180 how hard is it to understand. why do skiers have to try and re-invent/claim everything haha.

because a pretzel is supposed to be a hard trick. a 90 on fs 270 out is the most basic trick in the book. this isnt snowboarding, ya skiing took the pretzels from snowboarding but we can still change it to how we want.

hahah YA MAN MORE NEW SKIING DEFINITIONS IN TRICKS. 

pretzel is NOT supposed to be a hard trick, the only reason you heard it is because a man named corey vanular actually uses real names for tricks, and now every kid thinks a pretzel needs to be a hard trick, or that a pretzel you have to 270 on to do? which goes against its complete definition. why dont we just make A BRAND NEW NAME for a trick that has a name already! skiings really good at doing that, so lets just call pretzels LIGHTINGSLIDE

uhh since when does pretzel have to be a hard trick. it is a fucking name not a difficulty rating! the ollie in skateboarding isn't a hard trick (depending on what it's done on of course) and they still say it's an ollie.

haha something is very wrong with skiing if trick names come down to how hard the trick is.

not that you care, but oppo is a skier term. its all pretzel in boarding. a front board to reg is a front borard and a front board to switch is a front board to fakie.
