so what's the deal with the 1080s?...does anyone ride them and rep them for a solid ski cuz i haven't seen much about them on the forum...what are the cons of the ski, big or small negatives, i want to hear them all......i've heard that they have delam problems but i've never seen it...in what situations has anyone seen this happen and would anyone recommend the 1080 in general...are there any pros that put salomon up with the rest?

Salomon's are pretty solid skis. Although I'm not a fan of the 'SpaceFrame Technology' cuz when I demoed some Pocket Rockets a year ago, I broke one of the spaceframe thingys and snow got in, melted and made one super heavy. Granted this doesn't usually happen, and they had been abused quite a bit. If you were wondering about their team, it's really solid: Candide and CR rep em 24/7 and Candide now has his own pro model coming apparently.

you havn't seen much on them? they are i believe the first true twin tip to make it big, and are definatly the most sold twin tip, they are a good ski for sure, they'll take anything really and are pretty cheap compared to other skis

oh i've seen tons on them andknown all about them since the airforce brought them to the scene and started it all...i was just saying that i haven't seen much about them on the forum and that it seemed like not too many people are riding them...i'm pretty new so this is all gathering from what i have recently read in the posts......i just wanted to know whether there were serious reasons why many seem not to ski them...thanks

well alot of people have thme or have had them, but are now going towards the 'core' companies like line and armada and 4frnt and now k2 has some nice sticks out, so thats where the trend seems to be going, the more burlier skis

i have the old blue ones. they were really good at first, but that foam core is kinda dead now. and they make these funny popping noises when they flex. but i centermounted them this summer, i'm ready to rock that shit for another season.

i have a pair, when they enter my bum, it sort of hurts, the exit is a bit better. i ease it in with some astroglide. works like a charm. on the hole, i like the scratches better for entry AND exit

i love my 1080s, and ive only good things to say about them, however. The thing that doesnt seem right to me is the fact that Salomon pros are now riding different wood core skis than the spaceframe on sale to the general public. It just bites me that they sell foam filled skis to the public, but it seems that they arent good enough for their pros.

The fact that the pros skis are identical (apart from the base) looking to the sale ski is misleading. Surly the point of sponsering a rider is to push slaes on a product range. False advertising if you ask me.

1080's are really good skis....they do have delam problems...especially in the tips. Salomon are jerks about warrenty so you better have a really good reason for sending them into warrenty. Mine have delamed in the tip and the sidewall under the binding. But, other than the delam problems they are great. They rip all over the mountain, especially in the park. The only drawback is in deep pow or really high speeds on hardpack...they don't do so well there.

Yeah my 1080s are my first pair of twin tips. I bought them close to the end of season last year so i like only took them out about 3 times? Oh well i seem to like them. Very light, graphics are ok(not like anyone cares), haven't destroyed them yet but i won't know until this season. Yeah if i were to buy another ski i would go for K2 though... O well. I have 1080s and they are really good.

I really like the 1080's, but the pair I had delamed 3 times, and epoxy dose no good. I gave them back to the store I bought them from and they sent them in. I get a new pair this year, and I'll ski them till they bust, then I'm getting Scratches or Mad Trix if I can find some.

P.S. I think the wood core would help, but for now most of us are left out.

good point^^^^ i have a pair of the 161's and i love them. my edge fell out under the boot but its ok. and they haven't delammed. also, does any one know about how long it takes for th eocre to lose its pop and strength and just be like bricks on your feet???

what he is saying is that alot of threads on here have been comparing 4frnts / armadas / PE's / etc. and leaving the 1080 out.

The 1080 is still a top contender.
There is alot of hype going on about these new skis that are out.. It's funny because people are saying scratch's are horrible/outdated now. But last year when there was hype out, people were saying it was the best thing since sliced bread.

The ski hasn't changed, just the hype.

The 1080 is one of the best skis out, warranty is not great however, and by buying 1080's you wouldn't be supporting the more 'core companies'. But I love them, so I ride them.

Yah I demoed 1080's for like a week last year at banff, (because my skis got lost at the airport!!) They were pretty sweet, but I prefer my PE's much much more.

...thanks for all the feedback guys...it's been great...ghostdragon hit it right on the head and it def explains a lot...but i also wanted to hear what you all thought about the ski and it seems like they're pretty solid......how exactly does the delam affect the performance of the ski?...is it all shudder and instability?...and does it typically happen pretty early on?...i think i'm prolly going with a pair of the 181s and hopefully they'll hold together for a soild 2 years...i'm not to worried...hit the thread up with anything else you have to to say about the ski...good to hear that there are people who ride them, that they are a good ski...thanks again...peace

If i wasn't getting new Head stuff for free, I'd still be riding my 2001 1080's. Love those skis, never did me any wrong, hadnt had any problems with them, real nice solid feel

They are OK all mountain skis, however they die after ahlf a season because the foam flexes out. Also spaceframe has a tendency to snap in half for no apparent reason. Salomon athletes are not on the teneighty's you can buy in the shop, they are on $2,000 dollar wood core skis w/ graphite bases. I'd seriously consider the k2's or the up and coming companies like armada and 4-frnt. At least support the movement instead of an evil french racing company.

Mine delamed at the tip on the right ski, the base completely came off on the first 3 inches, and it was not skiable till I got it fixed. After my local store epoxy'ed it 3 times for a total of $10, I got tired and found a metal clamp and some duct tape and that held for the last 2 weeks of the year. They are great otherwise, the only times they felt slopy was when it was wet out, and that's mostly weather related. I didn't know the core wore down till I read this post. It seemed fine to me, but I'd watch it on the rails...

Edges dont delam much, but they sure like to crack. Gaurantee you'll see a bunch of cracks on the edges, but no delams, they hold together pretty well.

i checked out armadas and would def support the movement and skier independents...but the sidewalls on the ar5s don't even look finished and seemed really sketch...i didn't know what the deal was but they were just cut down and that was it...no seal or anything meeting the edge...i haven't heard of any problems though so maybe it's just the way they look...but that's the reason i was thinking about riding the 1080s for a couple seasons...my shop also told me that the ar5s are already sold out for the season so i don't even know if i could get my hands on a them......if anyone can clear up that sidewall business, twould be sweet to know......does the foam core really wear out in a half season??!!...damn

My friends 1080s have a bunch of cracks in the edges. for whatever reason the edges break really easy.
