NS, call for computer speakers help

ok so my computer is a little weird, and has been this way for a while and i don't know how to fix it, my speakers only works for certain things, like quicktime videos, i tunes, limewire, and some other things. But they dont work for things like youtube videos, or other sorts of videos....anyone know why this may be occuring. I have an old dell PC
