Help parking ticket!

So I went to the bar with my friends yesterday and drove one of them home. I get back to my car and have a 77$ parking ticket, WTF? Apparently you can't park in the street past midnight as of December 1st. There was definitely no sign up and tons of cars around me when I got there (my other buddy got lucky he was the only one who didn't get a ticket).

So uhh do I have any chance of going to court with this? Or somehow delaying it cause it's the holiday season and my wallet will be hurting. I'm in Quebec btw, thanks.

I dunno man, you can try to take it to court.  If there is a number on the ticket, call it and ask.  I know how you feel, that sucks hard man.  I got a $44 parking ticket a month ago and I thought that was a lot.  But if you can take it to court, by all means do it.  Only good can come from taking tickets to court.

Indeed, you have a case. A law can't guide anyone's behaviour if no one knows about it. They need to put up a sign or somehow make people aware of it before they start randomly handing out tickets.

Not completely true, most cities have laws in place that ytou are expected to know being residents or the city.

Depends on where ya got the ticket and if the it was posted which you said it wasnt. And if its not in the county you live in just dont bother paying it, my girlfriends dad never pays em in places he hardly ever goes and he never been halled off to jail for it

Thewy will warrant your arrest. When they catch you they will tow your car and haul your ass downtown where you can either pay them off or you sit there for a long time. Happened to my dad, he got a $50 ticket and decided he was going to "stick it to the man" and not pay and next thing he knows its a $500 ordeal.

haha yep. happened to me about a couple of years ago. i was just like fuck that im not paying a stupid $60 ticket, next thing you know i come home one day from work and theres a giant ass boot on my car, about $400 later i was good to go.

but the warrant only stands in the county that ya get the ticket was issued in, so as long as you dont fuck up again in that county your find because its not like theyre out for there 50 bucks, they can easily catch some one speeding for 250 or whatever they decide they wanna fuck you for

agreed. supposing you're arrested for something or you're applying for a job or something random and all of a sudden they find out there's a warrant out for you in bumfuck county. what then?

Hahahahah, I've got 215 dollars worth of unpaid parking tickets in Montana and Denver.  I got pulled over a little bit ago for speeding and the officer didn't mention them even though he ran my plates.  I think I'm safe for now.

actually, one of the basic principles of the rule of law is that all statutes must be properly communicated to all.  if this was like a new thing, you can probably find a way to leniency in it's enforcement.  you're in canada, so any judge up there should be very familiar with good 'ol Lord Bingham's philosophy governing the role of government.
