Why Iran must be stopped.

what scares me the most about Iran, is that Ahmadinejad follows a supposed messianic imam who is believe to resurrect sometime this decade and lead a jihad against the west, this makes me and numerous defense analysts beleive that Iran is militarizing to prepare for this final war against the west.

Iran is determined to become a player in international politics, and I believe will stop at nothing to remove a US presence from the middle east forcefully.

The Revolutionary guard is already patrolling the same area of the gulf as our carriers and its not hard to believe the revolutionary guard will attempt some antics that will draw us into firing upon them, giving Iran cause to retailiate against the United States, causing war between Us and Iran.

Hahahaha, well I don't think it was a particularly difficult fight this time around either.  Still though, the casualties and cost of the invasion pale in comparison to those of the occupation.  For what it's worth, I supported the Iraq war.  I supported it under the pretense that Washington had a bulletproof exit strategy to extradite the military before it became a ridiculous quagmire.  Of course I feel like an idiot now for even believing such a plan could exist.

Are you saying that our military doesn't deserve these benefits? I think they do and more. Sure the military does get some defunct societal members but it causes change in most all of them. You my friend are so ignorant for calling the troops uneducated and ignorant. How many people do you actually know in the military? My best friend enlisted in the marines two years ago and is in Iraq. 3 of my other friends in the air force have also been to Iraq. One of my best friends is in the force as well and I go to college with him. Another one of my friends I go to school with is taking spring semester off to go to basic. Her parental income is anything but low budget.

Regardless of that above paragraph are you really spineless enough to judge someone's integrity and education on their families income?

Before the war in Iraq I bet you could find simmilar 'statistics' about people in Iraq. yeah they are all loving the gov we put there right now.... not.

Ad furthermore why is it the responsability of the U.S. to go bring people democracy. Those that are not willing to fight for a democracy will be unable to maintain it.

The American military is primarily composed of people from a lower socio-economic background.  It's true and it's a big problem.  Not because less fortunate people posses any less integrity or courage, but because it's a kind of economic draft.  With the economy going in a down spiral, what's the one career path that won't ever stop hiring?

exactly.  And allowing illegal immigrants to fight for us, in exchange for citizenship is a scary parallel to the Romans allowing Barbarians to fight as Auxiliary(foreign Roman soldiers) in exchange for citizenship at the end of their tours of duty.

I was just kidding.  I just thinks it ridiculous how people blame everything on religion.  The people in power of Iran aren't doing what they are doing because they are religious.  They just want to gain power. 

Everyone blames everything on religion when if you really understand the religion it has nothing to do with anything.  Most religions preach peace and no violence so anyone who says otherwise is probably not educated.  Including anyone who says Jihad is about killing other people to make Islam more prominent.

You're right many Muslims would like to see extreme Islam be gone with. They make all of Islam look bad. The same way most christisans hate Shirley Phelps Roper because claims to be a christian and protests at soldier's funerals with signs that say things like "god hates fags".

During the cold war, we enjoyed MAD - mutually assured destruction.  If the Ruskies nuked the Yankees, global cataclysm would guaranteed.  Nobody would pull the trigger because they new the alternative would always be worse than painful diplomacy.

Iran merely seeks the political independence that only nuclear arms can guarantee, and even then, I think nuclear energy is the way to go if they truly are not pursuing weapons grade enrichment.

Iran just wants to join the big boys club.  Pakistan has nukes, India has nukes, and only a conceited diplomat would deny Isreal has nukes.  It's only rational that Iran would want nukes too.

Why?  Hmmm, perhaps so they could prevent unilateral invasion as say in Iraq.

Do I support Iran obtaining nukes?  Not really.  However, I understand their genuine perceived need and why they may see MAD as the only means of preserving their political independence given the traitorous histories of foreign diplomacy.

Ah, Iran.
Let's not forget that the country with the largest Persian population outside of Iran, is yes, the U.S. 

But screw that president of Iran fellow, Ahmedinijad or whoever he is, that guys just a massive windbag.

From the folks I've met from Iran, they're the nicest folks on the planet, and a generally open-minded set of people. 

Plus they have the greatest snow on earth. Really.

You've got to be kidding me, your saying that a well operated, surgical military operation would be succesfull because the people there want democracy? Please, look at the Iraq war, that was a great example of a perfectly executed operation in terms of fighting the military, fighting the people afterwards is an entirely different and almost impossible operation. You were told that Iraq wanted to get rid of its leader, and you thought that they would be open to westernization, wrong again. America is now past the point of fighting a war using its current technology, the enemy hides everywhere, kills anyone at anytime and personally wants to wipe the American forces off the face of the Earth. If you guys went into Iran with your already staggering debt, record low troop numbers/enlistment you would certainly fail. Apparently Americans haven't learned anything from the failures of the Korean and Vietnamese wars.

Is this thread a joke? You make this today, of all days, right after the shit hits the fan for people warmongering over Iran? It's been like 4 years since they've done anything that could even be considered a FORERUNNER to a threat. Or are you in the same camp with Fred Thompson, who apparently thinks Iran leaked that intelligence estimate?

Ridiculous. Iran is a no threat, and this "march to war" bullshit is not going to play as an election issue next year while soldiers are still dying in the LAST absurd political war waged by the right wing idiots in your country. America isn't quite THAT stupid... is it?

Why in the 1st place does USA even have to patrol in the middle-east except maybe in iraq, which is also stupid because its an aftermath for a stupid war

And also not all EU militaries are that well equipped. Maybe they are well equipped compared to their size but they are rather small armies, at least if youre gonna fight something the size of china

This country is not going to go to war with Iran.  We have no money, not enough troops, many other reasons, those being the biggest.

If you are really worried about protecting us from the "Evil" Terrorists", call 1-800-go-army right now.

Ahmendijidad may have an odd religious view, but at least he was man enough to come here and have a Talk at a University.  He risked his life to do that and that gains my respect.  Do I agree with everything he says? Hell no.  But he is the leader of his own country, they are a soveriegn nation, they can do whatever they want.  I do think that we should spy on them to make sure of no WMD's but other than that, we should stay the fuck out.

Would Bush ever  go to Iran and speak at a University? hell no he wouldnt.

get your head out your ass.  this guy making the thread is right. i dont understand people.. the iranians HATE us and are a threat.  I read the whole New York Times yesterday and even the company that made the reports. The national ulcear agency in switzerland or something said they were not willing to bank on their reports.  I would say thats especially true since they wouldve been wrong with their report in 2005 if their new one is right and vice versa. irans a threat they aint halting shit.

OMGZ you read a whole paper? Judging by your comments I'm assuming you mistook the actual news for the comics section. You are a perfect example of one person that can be easily persuaded by ideas that have no proof at all. Even when a report comes out that downplays Iran making any nukes at all you still cling to the psychopathic idea that they're a crazy bunch of motherfuckers bent on world destruction, thank god your kind will be silenced next election. Even back before the Iraq war your government falsified reports of Iraq having WMD's and yet even when your own government is telling you they haven't made any attempts to make nuclear bombs you STILL don't believe them. either way, i think we all can agree that the most important part of international conflict is prevention of any physical force, and the most effective step towards that is being willing to talk to one another. it's a hell of a lot easier to talk something out than to enter into a war with an unpredictable result.
and according the following article, i'd be willing to say your statement that "the iranians HATE us", is a severe generalization. iran has a massive youth population (70% of the total population is under the age of 30). this means that the vast majority of the population has no direct connection the the events of 1979 which seem to be one of the main sources of  the hatred towards the US that we do see.  the iranian youth have become more and more westernized (women not wearing their veils, couples holding hands, etc.) bringing them farther and farther from the older generations that do exist there today, who hold most of the hatred towards the US. also, in a poll, an entire 75% of the iranian population (not just youth) said that they wanted to reestablish dialogue with the united states. why would they want to talk to us, a whole 3/4 of them, if they truly do HATE us as you claim? just remember, you should never generalize without doing further research yourself.

the US is just protecting their interests in the area: Israel, oil, its all about our future wellbeing.
sadly, that has made us into this entity that is perceived as an invading force by the people in the region.

for discussion's sake: If we supported the palestinians instead of israel, chances are Iraq and the emerging conflict in Iran would not have happened.

sorry to bump this but i definately agree that the US is only protecting future interests in the middle east. The reason we support Israel is because of lobbyist groups such as AIPAC lobby hard for America to give aid to them...anyways back on topic I think if we developed alternative energies here we could pull out of the middle east conflict and not have to stay for oil interests.... oh and we wont go to war with Iran and they just want respect by joining the big boys with Nuclear weapons, there is no reason for them to use them and Amedenijad doesn't hold the real power in the country, he is just a raving lunitic and the youth of the country is actually a lot less radical and religious so tensions will get less and less over the years to come.

we dont have endless oil... we need to start looking to other resources and the problem with oil is it makes us get involved in foreign affairs which gets us involved in shit like Iraq, we have to have a domestic source of energy, i  dont give 2 shits about gas price... you arent seeing the bigger picture
