I'm in a fraternity, those staten island/new jersey guys in the beginning are obviously out of their fucking minds and have lost their chapter most likely for the way they acted. Pledging is tough, but it isn't buying your friends or subjecting yourself to slavery like actions, you know what to expect and just deal with it.  I went into pledging like 8 of my closest college friends my freshman year and we grew closer and closer throughout our experience. We don't go out and try to jason giambi guys faces, we simply hang out and party in a shitty small college town. The video is totally biased because all it shows is the downsides and hardships of pledging.... I'd like to see a video on the benefits of fraternity life, lifetime friendships, community service, hosting killer parties, job networking and  any other chapter you visit with open arms and hospitality. It's definitely not for everyone, but believe me when I say theres no comparison when on the other side. How many of you college students still talk to or would go to for help with the majority of your high school "friends" ? enough said.

We don't have any Frats where I am at University in newfoundland. From what i've heard of them they sound just plain pointless and idiotic though. Like, the biggest dickheads in the school get together to form a club?

Why do you feel the need to have to go through the hardships?  Honestly, thats fucked up that you need to go through that shit in order to get closer and feel a sense of belonging.  I come from a school with a HUGE frat system (Illinois). 

Don't even kid yourself and say you did it for networking.  If you wanna network, join a club specific to your major, get a job, and get to know your professors.  If you wanna get shitfaced, fuck lots of sluts, be really creepy and spike drinks, watch your GPA go out the window, be a part of the gang mentality, and project an image of insecurity to everyone around you then join a fraternity.

i didn't even watch the video but seriously, you people need to the lighten the fuck up!

i joined a fraternity back in university. we were never hazed, physically or mentally, we don't pay enormous amounts of money, and contrary to popular belief, no one ever put anything into a girl's drink. there were times when we were accused of doing it by a girl's friends but they later told us the hospital said she had alcohol poisoning.

im not saying there aren't fraternities that don't do that shit and i'll be the first to admit it is despicable. remember that just because your gf gets something slipped into her drink does not necessarily mean that it was done by a member of the fraternity because there are usually other guys there that aren't members.

that's all im going to say but i encourage everyone to make their own opinions. go and hang out with a fraternity during rush week and check it out for yourselves. if it's not your cup of tea, then leave, no one is going to force you to join something you don't want to

See there's my point...Why is it that so many people are quick to have a problem with people associated in Greek life and yet we have no cares or concerns with what you're doing? It's like you're jealous or something...like everyone says, its 4 weeks of hell for a lifetime of benefits. Take it or leave it but don't knock something until you really know what the deal is. Fraternities are organizations, even a business. Not just a drinking club, believe me. like I said, that movie is nothing but biased and "from the outside looking in, you'll never understand it, From the inside looking out you can't explain it."

it's hilarious to see all this talk of brotherhood, social networking, community service, and then you go to a frat house and its a fucking dive filled with slimeballs with a complex.  the only reason anyone considers them useful is because they have parties and wherever there's a party there's hot sluts and booze.

I can guarantee there are no frats like that at UBC (I'm not in one). They all have different mentalities, but I have a couple of friends who joined frats, and although they do hang out a lot with their brothers and partake in a lot of fraternity events, they are not douchebags, jocks, or whatever this video showcases.

It's kinda funny that you guys generalize all frat guys to be douches.  Just like people there are cool fraternities and then those that want to live up to the frat steryeotype(sp?).  Yes there are a lot of benifits to a fraternity sucha s networking because many engineering company's( my major) are run or managed by alums of my fraternity.  THe thing is every chapter is different, sig eps at one campus can be douches and fratastic, while at another campus they can be super cool.  So before you guys go and say all frats are bad because you had a bad experience with one remember that the houses that host open parties, are the ones that do live up to the fratatstic image.  We have parties at our liveouts where if you don't know someone there your not invited.  it's not stuck it's risk managment so that we don't have out of control parties.  Remember if you didn't go through rush and check out all the fraternities (or soroities ladies) don't generalize.  You went to that frat party to party and get wild and trashed right, so why are you complaining when the people hosting that party get wild and trashed also.  THis unfounded belief that frat guys are all douches is really hurting the greek system.  I played quarterback since i was 8 in pop warner and baseball since i can remember, once high school ended so did my sports carreer, and i missed the camraderie of a football lockerroom or a baseball dugout.  So i decided to join a fraternity, and you know what out of all the 22 frats on our campus i only liked 2.  Every house is different and caters to a different type of man.  THe ones that put out videos like this are on every campus but remember that that is not what every fraternity is like.

haha i'm not concerned about how much money i'm going to be making in the future. i'm in college right now and i'm having a good fucking time. i'm only 18. i do have a job where i make a lot of money so i'm good for now. and i love smoking weed. thats what i do for fun. whatever you do is your business. however you make your money is good for you. don't worry about me.

I joined a house that a guarantee any one of you would get along with... stop stereotyping that ignorant shit. yeah no all frats are like that, but some are.
i thought it would have been fun to pledge one year to see what it is really like first hand, and then before actually becoming a brother quit...and i would've quit if i had to do any hazing or anything no doubt.
i didn't do that thought because it would have been a big waste of time. i have my own friends/"brothers" that i didn't pay large dues to meet and hang out with.

i think there is nothing wrong with good frats, but the bad ones give most frats a bad rep.

I was thinkin about being in a frat but im kinda skeptical about it after seeing this cause I hate people who belittle other people and I dont think its worth a near death experience just to be friends with some people.  I m not gonna judge and say all frats are like this one but I also dont want that kinda reputation as an asshole cause im a pretty chill guy and like to be friends with anyone and everyone as long as they dont annoy me  or be an asshole to me then its cool.

Yeah the southern frats are the most oppresive and alot of times fucked up. Im in a fraternity at CU and we are pretty chill, we dont haze or even really have pledges but there are definately some/alot of asshole ones out there.

first off, I'm still incredibly good friends with every single one of my high school "friends."  and I'm a sophomore.  and I haven't lost touch with a single one.  maybe you aren't good at making friends.  just some more frat bullshit about how you guys will be "remembered" or you make lasting connections.  hahaha thats funny.  I like my real friends I made on my own, thanks.

second, you say we are all concerned over frats, but you guys aren't.  oh, but I beg to differ.  you guys think you're the shit.  I don't care if you say this isn't true, because on some level all frat guys think theyve got something going on beyond the normal person, or else why would you join a frat? 

you talk about having friends who will back you up under any circumstance.  and there is where you lost all your credibility.  you need people to back you up in fights because you are assuming fights will occur.  you have a violent mentality.  I dont really give a shit if my friends will blindly back me up, first I am not gonna back up one of my friends by suckerpunching someone in the back of the head (which is all frat guys do, Ive seen it happen a bunch) because if my friend starts some shit, I'll help break things up but I am not gonna kick some guys ass for them if they got themselves into it.  also I try to avoid fights, you obviously are hoping they will happen, like most frat guys.

heres how to properly defend frats.  most frats are lame.  there are some cool ones.  the lame ones ruin it for the cool ones.  but you can't say they all suck.  just a lot of them do.

The problem I have with frats and sororities is how they seem to change the people that join them. Most of the people I know that have joined them pretty much gave up their lives for their frats. They were always too busy with some event to hang out anymore and all they ever talk about is how some other frat did something or how they can't believe some other club got into the frat league for intramural basketball.
