Replying to Got a problem with my drill...need help

so i have this drill that im using to build my pvc rail, and when i tried screwing a screw into wood, it was hard, it would skip over the groves, then i pushed down really hard so it would go in. i was successful, then on the 2nd screw, the drill started slowing down. i thought it was the batterey, so i let it charge over night and all day, right now i put it in and it still doesnt work. i mean that plug couldve been not working too, but i dunno.
   1 did i break it by pushing down too hard?
   2 are you supposed to do that?
   3 and how long are you supposed to charge the batteries?
