i was embarrassed to tell this story but now i think its just funny.
heres the preface:
worked a tough week (im a designer) until thursday night around 11. told my boss, hey i met my weekly quota and then some, so i wanna take off tommorow cuz its boulders last day of preseason rates (and im poor)
story:
i awoke friday to almost too perfect conditions. my mind was clear, knowing i didnt have to do shit until monday, the skies were crystal and the temps were nice. today was going to be my 2nd day on snow, and im SO pumped. never been to BB before so didnt know what to expect other than u kids sayin its a pretty dope place.
pack up my car, hop in and start the ride. google says its an hour and 47 minutes, so i bring my one hitter along for the ride.
crusin on 80 west, tokin a little and listening to some cool tunes while i get super super stoked to ride
get off the exits im supposed to take, and i know the mountain is near a lake so i follow signs and whatnot.
as i come around the bendy road before the mountain, my eyes light up like those of a 6 year olds on christmas morning. a beautiful site, nice little hill, snow everywhere, a beautiful lake, man it almost brought tears to my eyes.
come around this one corner, and bam, big parking lot, not a single car in site.
"oh well" i ponder, "i supose this lot is empty cuz its early and midweek and preseason, lets see how the other lot is lookin"
10 cars.
delight and joy are instantly replaced by curiosity, anxiety, and general depression.
get the mountain on the horn, and right when the nice recorded voice says "3pm to 8pm preseason", i look at my clock: "11:30am". my heart drops. i knew it. i checked the site before and i even saw it, but just because i was so happy to have a day off, it NEVER crossed my mind.
sadden and destroyed, i packed up my bowl, and started my journey home.
hope to make it back there some time to ride with ya'll soon. =( looks like a fun place.
