Best Computer for Graphic Art

Hey, Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or knowledge regarding what a good computer would be for some one majoring in computer graphics, like myself.

when you say majoring in computer graphics what do you mean? Do you mean like graphic design or like computer science where you learn DirectX, OpenGL, shaders, etc ?

hp and dell are becoming just as good as mac's and with dual channel memory and fast dual core chips.. it doesnt matter what you go with as long as you have at least a 2ghz core2duo with at least 2gb of ddr2 ram.. Combine that with a 2 500gb harddrives and a geforce 8 series graphic card you should be fine.

now a days all the graphics programs save with files compatible between pc and mac, so there is no issue there. When you get a monitor, dell, sony, and samsung have the best color quality to match print.

Mac. I use to use my pc for all my photo stuff but got introduced to the Mac and it is far better.

^^ hp and dell are becoming? They always were. Hp and dell have had duel cores, and duel channel ram for a while now, they have quad core computers in the market, and its not very hidden. Quad core computers are being advertised everywhere now

well obvisously duh to every statement. didnt say it was hidden.. but i was stating something that is affordable... true quadcores are pricy.. intel doesnt have a true quad core.. only amd does and its expensive.. and a lot of programs wont even take advantage of the 4core.

not really.. you can install vista, xp, 2000 or anything and still run what you want.. with sp3 coming out for xp.. it will be faster than vista.. vista will be gone in 2008-2009 as microsoft is developing something better ( i know.. i know.. M$ sucks)

hahahaha how awesome why don't I downgrade from this OS i spent $200 on to an os released what, 6 years ago?! Real state of the art...
All i'll say to any mac haters is: try a mac. If youve already tried it and dont understand how much better osx is than any windows, you're an idiot.

the sheet numbers that are supposed to measure the speed of a machine are obsolete. Macs simply multitask and handle the programs better. they are fast when it comes to getting work done, not nescessarily when it comes to numbers.

I have a powerbook g4 that is 2.5 years old now. it has 1.67Ghz processor and 2GB RAM. It runs all of my programs faster and freezes less than any PC I have worked on. It has never crashed, never had any sort of wierd errors like PCs get, and I can count the number of times in the last 2.5 years I have had to forcefully restart it because it froze on my fingers, not exaggerating.

IMO macs are more reliable, better running (if not faster as well) and just plain more baller than PCs.

I should add that the new macs are still reliable, but not as nicely made as the older ones (before the new processors)

I also think that the HP and Dell monitors are not as well made as other monitors, however, they are possibly the best for the money.

say mac... i have an ibook g4, and its not even a top model or anything but i can run photoshop and premiere on it at the same time just fine, everything so smooth on mac, and i too can count how many times ive had to force a restart... 3 thats it
