So what is the concensus on Deadbolts?

I was thinking about getting a pair of the deabolts but I still haven't heard a lot about them.  So what does everyone think?  Are they just as good as the rest?

nordica doesnt make bindings?

pretty solid binding, lighter than most looks, rossi's. very durable and have a much better brake system then most for freestyle. highly reccomended

Correct, they are made by Vist. Vist makes bindings for amplid, 4frnt, nordica, movement, I think blizzard, and a few others.

However, I wouldnt say they are the most durrable binding, I have seen a few pairs with cracked toes and snapped heels. The one major drawback to them is the fact that there arent alot of shops that have the jigs to mount them.

Contrary to what you said, I would never go with 4frnt, I will always stick with Look/Rossi.

Had pair last year & hated them. Broke the AFD pad twice & didnt like the way the toe released at weird times.

have a pair right now. rode them for the first time yesterday and im not sure if i like them cause they popped off at some weird times(ie land switch off box and they fall off, butter and the heel releases, land a 3 foot 1 and they popped off). i messed up one of the brakes trying to widen them slightly which might be why they kept popping off weird.  actually the messed i brake has a decent chance of being the problem, because it was always the ski with the messed up brake that came off.

i have a pair and i dislike them. They broke last year and i got them warranteed and they release all the time now. They're on my lizzzies and i'm not a big fan

that wierd because..i got the 07 look px12 jibs and they were having a problem releasing on the heelpiece so i sent them in to Look to get them warrantied..they sent me what they call the 08 look px12 jibs but on the actual binding it says "Dynastar trouble maker" and the manual they came with says "Dynastar" on the front but when you open it up its says "px12 jib binding made by Look"...and i know that dynastar owns look but its still kinda wierd

They are shit. total shit. I have seen those bindings fall apart in ways i have NEVER seen before.

VIST doesn't even "make" bindings for people. if you wanted to, you could call them up and say "hey, i want x number of bindings with this logo on them, and these colors (chosing from colors they already have only) and they would do it, for the right price. They make the same exact binding for everyone, and they all suck shit.

The jury is still out on mine. I did have to turn the din up today because they were releasing ridiculous easy in the pow at Skibowl, the problem seems to have been solved. But I have new boots now and late last season I didn't have any issues with the deadbolts at all.  It should be noted I only use them on my big mountain/powder skis and not in the park at all.

Do some of you have the version that has the upward releasing toe for landing switch or whatever? I'm thinking maybe that might cause some unusual releases.

maybe you all shouldn't be on the 12 DIN model, i have a pair on my JPs and they work fine, and mine are the old nordica ones. they release properly for a binding at 13 for me.

there fine if you dont have the 12 din one, or the 14, my 16;s are fine, but they have the plugs in them so they dont have vertical release.

I have two pairs of them.. and I know about 20 people with them. A very limited number of people that I know have had issues with them. I personally love mine. They're solid. don't prerelease like PX's. They have a great screw pattern, so they aren't pulling out like say a pivot. Yeah, some break. But there is a warranty. 4frnt is good about it too.

Yea, we'd all like to have FKS.. but finding parts/bending brakes is a hassle. Aside from Dukes/Jesters  which are redic $$... this is the only well priced choice in my mind of a solid binding.

Get em.

They are OK, but in my experience not any better than PX series. I'd rather ride pivots, STH, or FKS for sure.

i have 412's and ive never had prerelease problems with mine my din is only at 7.5-8 im not sure why you people had problems but i ski'd all last season on them and nothing broke and they still work perfectly

How does it matter which ones you are one?  The housing is the same on all three models just the spring is different.  I rarely run my DIN above 9 because I like my knees and prefer they stay functional.

^Word.   I've heard a lot of people just break the cover on the toe piece which really isn't a big deal.  The Heal is super bomber so I can't believe that it would break any easier than any other binding.  The toe is what I'm worried about so I'm curious how the actual housing holds up.

Its fucking plastic.  If you hit it hard enough it will break.  I have them and have never had a problem.  The only issue is the lack of jigs.  I got mine for 100 so it was well worth it.

I can't get a deal on look/rossi.  I'm looking at the deabolts because I can get the college discount.  I'm not that fond of look/rossis anyways.

i have been hated on this site so many times for my views on deadbolts because half the people on this site are religious about there pivots/race stock bindings blah blah blah. the people who are popping out of the there bindings above obviously need to turn up there din if its happening that much.
No it does not matter which din one you get because they are all the same just with different springs to give higher dins. i have 614's set at 7 and i have never had improper releases and im 135 lbs and ski mainly park.
The heelpiece is not completly plastic, i thoroughly looked over mine when i first got them and i thought the same thing, but really most of the binding is metal, it is just has a plastic cover which does not make a differance than if it was metal, it just makes them lighter. The important parts of the binding that need to hold up and be strong are metal i guarantee you.
If you can get a bit of a deal on these get them. There quality bindings and even if there is a problem, you will be able to warranty them no problem. I say get them and move away from the blind cult following of look and rossi.

I'm 6'1" 185lbs and never had an issue with my 816's...

I have the vertical release locked out and my DIN is set at 11 on my park skis and 13 on my pow skis. I ride 3-4 days a week and have never had any problem except once when I hit a hip, landed at bottom of the landing switch and leaning forward, hooked a break, and twisted it to pieces. That's my fault though not the bindings.

ive had 412s for about 2 years and i love them. ive never had any problems prereleasing or anything like that. never had anything break on them or anything. i would highly recommend the deadbolts

I thought you said you rarely run a din over 9... yea? 1018's are overkill. 412's or 614's sound just fine.

   if your so hooked up and can get a great deal, then just get them! if they break so be it, warranty, and buy a different pair next time will all the money you saved from getting "hooked up"

apologize if i come off as being an ass. just im sick of all the people in here just saying how they hate deadbolts and how they suck, without any evidence
