independant ski companies-boots, bindings etc

why is it that they only make skis in most cases? i was reading somewhere that the reason to buy skis from companies like armada, 4frnt and line was that the money you spend goes right back into the industry, but if you buy skis from rossi or salomon, it goes towards the FIS.
well thats fine, but the FIS must still be making tons of cash off of us because we have no choice but to buy bindings and boots from those companies anyways. so im wondering when will the independant ski companies step up and make a couple of boots and bindings as well as a couple of skis? line was on the right track, but we all know about the problems that come with buying line.
so does anyone know if 4frnt or armada will be making stuff like this in the near future?

It is way harder to make boots and bindings. If a company grows enough then they will make boots or bindings, like LINE does.

I've always wondered that too lanks. It will be interesting to see in the future where it goes. I think as more and more money starts pumping into our side of the industry, it will happen. The hard thing with ski equipment is that people are sooo trusting in the brands that they are used to and have been out for like 50 years, that it's hard to change the paradigm. It's especially hard with bindings because you have to put a lot of trust into your bindings cuz they are what keep you safe.

lol, how does buying skis from a more developed comany give our money to the FIS?
I think more companies should be like 4FRNT- they hope to have a connection with Rossi, so that you can get discounted Rossignol bindings, as like a package, with their skis

bindings cost millions to develope and test. a binding takes years to develope and test unlike a ski which usually only takes about a year/or less. boot molds cost loads of cheese as well

As I said before, the ski industry has been around for a long time, and only in the past few years (like 8) have they seen a need for newschool stuff. Let companies grow and slowly try new things. LINE is already trying this, but they are getting raped by customers and the people making their bindings. They at one point had a complete line of ski equipment.

djextreme, the big companies are big because they have a business model designed for one thing, profit. These companies run for money, not to see what they can do for the sport. Therefore, if they are going to make a lot more money on race equipment, which we all know sells a lot more than jib equipment, they are going to put more money into it to make your return even better. Common sense really.

the big companies are owned by bigger companies anyway. volant is owned by atomic, salomon is owned by adidas, k2 is owned by some rain gear company... theyre all just subsidiaries now.

somebody should start an indipendent boot company. a whole line of freeride/park specific boots. Bindings are pretty tough to do, because of all the testing required to passs certain standards, but i think a boot compainy could work.

It takes alot of money to have the facilities to make boots. production equipment like molds arent cheap. As for bindings, why re invent the wheel?

for boots, you need to have a cnc machine to make prototypes for every single size/model, then materials for the shells, buckles and liners as well as specific lasts for each size boot liner. this is why most companies dont have 1 to 1 sizing, ie a 28 and 28.5 are the same size shell and liner, just different thickness footbed. and crystal, salomon bought themselves out from adidas, which is part of the reason they really havent had any breakthrough new technology in the past year or so
