Help with autoCAD 2008

I just got this program and I have no idea were to start. I tried reading the help manual and they never tell you how to draw a simple line. Could anyone give me some pointers on the basic functions of autocad 2008? Or link to a site that has a real tutorial that mr.everybody can understand.

all right, click on the box tool, make a box. then fix the points to the center thing of the work page, then dimension.

now right click done, right click again finish sketch. now extrude it how far you want and there you have a simple block

idk about inventor. but all the programers that work for him use autocad...and u gotta be pretty dam good

Its the Architecture version, I played around with it but, I couldnt even draw a line.

um, maybe ill throw a tutorial up tonight then if you reeeeaaally cant figure it out, but there should be PLENTY of information already out there.

They're similar. Made by the same company. Both have the same type of files. What type of designs does he do? I know my way around the program so I can easily learn how to do anything.

Inventor, AutoCAD and Revit are all really great programs!

AutoCAD is the worst though, it takes a while to get used to and is really mind numbing when you have to do perspective and stuff...Inventor and REvit are great though.

It can take a while to get used to but flows pretty well once you get the hang of it.

It serves a different purpose then many of those other programs, and is still the industry standard for architectural and mechanical drawing creation.

to draw a line hit L click your first point and then either enter the length/coordinates or click the second point on the screen

For architectural stuff use Revit, we've used in school for the past 2-3 years and it is great, you can build shacks to sky scrappers, it's just a brilliant program.

Look it up if you have the chance :)

Well he uses lathes and mills and other machines to make like optical and military shit.  Most of it is incredibly precise.  I'm pretty sure, not quite I usually work down on the floor level not with programmers, they make a either a autoCAD design to accomplish a customers need, or they make a design from an existing piece that doesn't have a design.  And if you are really good, you can take the autoCAD design and write a program for the machines to follow and drill the piece.

We have a milling machine and a laser cutter which are run from inventor files. I also know how to code.
