After having done one season
overseas 06/07 in Whistler, im looking at planning another one for next
year (08/09), probably around 3 months and i have decided i want to go
to america (I'm from Australia).
After reading a lot of forum topics and internet
guides i have come to the conclusion that i really want to go to Aspen,
so i was wondering, compared to Whistler, is Aspen really as expensive
as it is made out to be?
Would it be worth the money?
Otherwise i was thinking of going to mammoth for a few months.
What are your opinions?
Any other places i should look into?
Im looking for a place with Heaps of terrain so it doesnt get too crowded and the majority of terrain i would be skiing would be difficult/expert (not being a dick who thinks he's awesome, just saying i wouldnt be skiing much intermediate stuff)
Aspen is huge $$$$$$. If you can afford $1000+ in rent a month or don't mind living with 40 other people it can be done, but it's gonna end up costing a ton more the whistler did I would guess ( just by running rough #'s thru my head).
If you want it to work badly enough, you can make it happen though.
Check out the Tahoe area too, sick nightlife, sick terrain. Breck or Vail would fit the bill too. Although I'd do Tahoe before either of those.
I'm thinking along the same lines for 08/09 so bump..
I was expecting the responses to be "Fuck off, don't come here, i'm sick of seeing so many Australians at my resort" (Apparently there are a shitload of US at Whistler and other major resorts)
I would reccommend utah. usually a lot more snow, and less people. mtns like alta, solitude, snowbird, maybe brighton, powder mtn. you might also be interested in park city. the first 4 will get you some real good terrain, some great people to ski with, and rarely big crouds. nightlife might lack, but if u stay near salt lake city then you'l be fine.
Im more of a pow skiier so i dont really care about the quality of the park.
The thing that has been attracting me towards Mammoth is how close it is to LA. Having never been to the US i really want to check out a few cities including LA and might even at the start or end of the trip check out NY - typical tourist destinations but they are places that i really want to see in person as ive heard so much about them.
I had a few mates who did Tahoe last season so im going to have a chat to them, as they have done whistler, aspen and tahoe.
I would also want to be getting a job there so thats why i thought aspen may not be as bad as if i could land a good job the difference between my pay and living expenses wouldnt be as great.
