do you think skis could be built that have an adjustable stance? like on snowboards, they have the multiple binding holes, do you think you could do that on a sk, with holes going up and down the skii. so you could rear mount for mountain, and then center mount for park, just by unscrewing the binding, and moving it forward or back?

explain to me why this could or couldnt work.

That would be cool but then all skies would have to be symetrical to justify it. It would be pointless to be center mounting on skis that weren't meant for it.

the problem with this would be that then all bindings would have to have the same hole pattern and also having all those extra holes in a ski would be alot worse then having them in a snowboard because the snowboard is so much fatter it can handle having the weak points

yah if you really want something like that just buy some good all-mountain skis that you can use for park and are decent for pow, and drill a set of holes at center and a set for freeride and switch them whenever you feel like it, but that could be tedious as shit

i wish all skis, or a least twin tips, had metal inserts, and all bindings had uniform standerdized mounting pionts. becuase im sick of buying new bindings to go with all my skis.

i think its completely possible for brands to do this too, but they dont want to potentially loose money from people buying less bindings for each pair of skis.

line had the idea right with the reactor, only problem is getting every company to adapt their skis so they have the same holes and every bindings company to do so as well won't happen...for example...i rode lizzies, and i had the reactors, and liked to mount the bindings towards the back when i was in powder...but when i was in the park preferred them closer to the center

I work at a shop, and recently have learned how to mount skis, and i see several problems. first off, you glue the screws in, second (as already mentioned) they all have different mounting patterns. finally have you looked at any tyrollias. Not my favorite binding in the world, but you can adjust several of the models foreward and back like 1 cm. Its pretty sweet, my dads skis have them.

i totally agree, even if a couple companies got together and came up with a simple mounting pattern it could catch on for other companies to use

the fact that you glue the screws in means nothing...it would be possible to use screws with some glorified teflon tape or something....the problem is all the holes that are drilled into a ski removes core material, changing the flex of the ski....in short i think it is possible but it would make skis shitty for a while until it was perfected.

yes but if the skis have metal threaded inserts there would be no need to glue the screws in

ya this would work great on all k2 tele skis they have wat they call the regular pattern and you can mount ur bindings forward or bckward or center its sick so i can take my bindings 2 mm back or 1mm forward or dead center it works great if you do it buy your self you will need to either make or get an adapter place(easy to make just follow the mounting pattern and the BOMBER BishOP Bindings adapter plate) and if your goin to do this make ure ur ski still flexs the same way

I was thinking about making a thread on this BUT the idea I was thinking is a little different.

You can SLIDE your bindings apart on the sliderness in the middle of the board.

It comes down to durability versus convenience. You can't have both; its impossible.


Look at those Burton slider boards for instance; those things may have the sickest graphic that ever graced a shred-stick, but the whole concept makes the binding/board integration a whole lot weaker.

Check out the new Blizzard skis. If I'm not mistaken the binders can be set-up foreward or back. They slide on a groove manufactured in the ski.
