Integrated binding system....

my mom was looking into new skis for herself and we keep coming around the integrated binding system. i've seen these before but never really paid attention to them.
what exactly are they? just bindings built in to the foils?
will her current ski boots work wit em?

almost every company is turning to an integrated system for all mountian skis nowadays. any boots will function with it because boots function in according to binding not ski. the ski has a plate built into or on top of the ski with rails to slide the bindings onto. it is necessary to have an integrated binding to go onto the ski though

It is just either a track or plate with many holes that you can mount the bindings onto. It has many benifits. One is that the track is made as part of the ski, so you lose that "dead spot" you get right in the middle of the ski from mounting bindings. It allows the ski to still flex naturally. Also, it makes it really easy to remount your bindings if necessary. Then there is that lifter idea; being higher off the ski gives you more leverage for turns. And you can't forget that it forces the consumer to buy the companies own binding (Salomon->Salomon K2->Marker etc). As far as compatibility with boots, everyhting is the same as with regular skis.

I didn't know the name, but I've seen it a lot. If I understood the description right, all racing skis are like that, for world cup skis at least. This is probably why everyone in racing has matching bindings, I've never thought about that. But that would suck bad for frestyle and park skiing, because it make the ski a lot heavier and the binding are overelevated, which would suck on rails
