Computer help!?!

i just bought a macbook today, and i'm trying to setup wireless internet. i got a netgear router. i am hooking it up, i have all of the wires connected correctly and my LAN light won't come on on it. that way it can't establish a connection. their customer service sucks, i have been on hold for 15 minutes. any ideas?

no i had to go to my desktop computer and configure my LAN settings, it was pretty complicated actually haha.
