Binding mounting

Has anyone mounted there own skis before? Because I am doing mine and I just wondered if you had any pointers or how to do the hole thing

the fact that you are asking NS how to mount skis, says to me that you need to be taking your skis into a shop and getting a tech to mount them..

Dont fuck your skis up because you wanna save a few dollars man

haha shops have qualified technicians that do it the best and most appropriate way.

in my opinion there is really no better way to do it than how a qualified tech does it..step by step, the same way every time.

You are an idiot for asking, but if you are going to do it i would make a paper jig from an old/previously mounted pair of skis with the same binding, so it will be mounted for the right BSL.  Take off the old binding, lay paper over the holes, trace where the holes are on the paper, then lay the paper on the new skis, measure where you want center to be, and use oh id say a 1/2 inch drillbit dumbass!

ya i know , still just wondering if anyone has done it themselves. I mean its prob not that hard, just line up holes right drill them to right width and lengthe and slip a little glue in and slap them on

I did it once myself way sketchier than you are probably about to.  I think i just drilled holes out, even went all the way through the skis a couple times...haha  Would not recommend it.  Was a shitty pair of skis though.  Either way I probalby should have broken my legs from that mount.

Don't feel like typing a whole tutorial for you now since I just pulled my head out of the toilet, man such a heavy night, been a while but hey, it's my farewell-party-weekend.

You might want to make sure you don't drill through your skis, so put some tape around your drill bit at the exact height, ik you have one take a conical drill bit (you know, narrower at the tip going wider when going deeper) but make sure you got the right diameter on it.
Make sure you drill the holes in the right place lol

Measure each mounting point first to check they're the same. Then measure tail to back of jig when you put it on each ski to make sure it's in the exact same position. Don't trust the jig unless it's brand new or one that you know to be true because chances are someone has dropped and bent it at some point - use it to mark the holes lightly first and eye/measure the marks so you know it's all good. Then drill freehand. Check screw length before you put the bindings on. Get the right screwdriver and don't use a drill unless you know the clutch well, and even then finish by hand.

if he hasn't mounted skis before i wouldn't be recommending a paper jig!

 I have mounted shitty skis before and still have them after 2 years. I took info from everyone and I just got done mouning them a couple hours ago. Looks mint and centered and all lined up right. I put my boots on and then skis and did some tip stands and they hold up super. Ill do the real test tommarow at Sundayriver, they have a rail jam goin on.

well, i just got back from thrashing sunday river all day and they are holdin up great. Rail jam went sweet, i got second and won a Giro G10 helmet and i think Devin Flynn got first and won a pair of Thrusters

just make sure the pressure is right(it is on the heel piece the arrow has to be between the two arrows if that makes any sense

Seriously, it is not a difficult process to mount.  even if u have no jig or paper jig (although it speeds things up considerably) you can still measure and use a prick punch through the mounting holes to get a location.  a few drops of glue or an elastic epoxy and make sure you have good purchase on the screw threads with the drill size u use. The most critical part is getting the screws snug, but not over tightening, as this can strip the hole and result in tear out...

yea, seriously, it isnt rocket science, its drilling 8 holes. ive mounted tons of skis by hand (no jig), both by measuring, and by slappin them on there and eyeballin it. its alot easier with a binding with wormscrew forward pressure, but still doable with tabbed. line up where you want your bootsole, and where the first line of screws need to be. once you get those, get the second set. when your toepieces are mounted, get the heels done. dial in the forward pressure, and your set. if its your first time, itll prolly take 2 hours or so. it is alot easier to do accurately with a centerpunch. oh yea, to get both binders lined up, use a wall to even the tips and a straight guide to line up the bindings.
