 just finish the course so you have one degree under your belt and get a decent job

i thought suicide as well... but i would talk to your advisor and see what they say because maybe changing your major or just knowing all your options will help.

Yea, ive been thinking along the same lines. It seems like I'm busting my ass in school so I can prove that I'm worthy of a 9-5 that I don't even want. Sounds dumb.

stick the year out at least, and then assess the situation once you finish that year. I was in the same boat as you two years ago. I was working towards a bachelor of fine arts majoring in photography, and I absolutely hated the school and everything about it.  I wanted to pursue photography, but I knew I couldnt stand the fine arts school I was in.  I finished the year off, then quit and went traveling, went to NZ, thailand, vietnam, laos, and cambodia where i did some volunteer work.  After that year I decided I wanted to try journalism. I'm now studying photojournalism, and I'm aboslutely loving it.  All my classes are interesting, and I'm so much less stressed out even though the workload is a lot more because I know this is what I want to be doing.  Quitting art school and taking a year off was the best decision I've ever made in my life.  You dont have to "get a degree under your belt" right away if you know its not the degree for you.  take some time off if you need to, and figure out what it is you really want to do.

well im not going to college and working full time, but all i want to do is ski, and i know i have to work, so just to kinda "take off" work for next year me and a friend might work at snowbird to ski everyday...and if he bails i think im gunna have to work at my home mountain..

no one "likes" school, its just a plain and simple fact.  what do u like?  you like to ski obviously, so try to get into a career with that.  for me, when i get into college, im thinking about going for managment, maybe even ski resort managment.  try to realize what you want to do AFTER college, and itll helo you get through being in college.

this is the problem with our society today. IMO. you are taught that if you dont go to college your life will be miserable.  college is not for some people. ive already decided its not for me because making a lot of money means nothing to me and i would rather have fun than get a degree for a job i will in time, loathe. so its really up to you. what do you think is best for you? cause in my opinion college really isnt that important.

The trick is to find a balance.  Read books that aren't about what you're studying, go to art shows, go skiing a lot, do what you need to do in your own time. 

Sure, some people can get by without post secondary, but realize you'll likely never say to your kids "yeah, i really wish i hadn't have gone to school". The world we live in right now requires an unprecedented level of technological knowhow, and a lot of it isn't necessarily stuff you can learn on the job.

Just keep yourself in balance, and everything will be aight.

but mike, i really think you should stick it out. wait until the ski season really picks up, and you'll totally be glad you're staying around for that epic powder you're going to get every year.

and who knows, if you really dislike it all frosh year, just transfer! maybe a bigger school might be a better option, because then there's tons of shit to do and tons of wicked cool people to meet! unlike lyndon, where you've got nothing until the snow, haha.

I see it that way too. Whats the point of going to school so I can work at a job I hate all day and the only thing that keeps me attached to it is money? I'd rather be in a smaller apartment or something and work at a mountain to board all day or do something outside. I'll probably still go to school though because when my grand scheme of fun turns for the worse I can get a job that I hate if worse comes to worse.

see, the idea is to go to school for something your interested in, so you can get a job later on in life that you dont absolutely hate.  Obviously not everyone should go out and get an engineering degree just to make some cash, but a degree in anything will help you later on in life.  You need to project ahead as well, you may be fine with a small apartment living the "ski bum" life for now, but you may want something different when you're in your 40s.

Didn't you know the only way to be happy is to go to church every sunday, go to college, find a wife and have a perfect family?  You have to live the perfect cookie cutter life, otherwise you're life will suck and you'll become an alcoholic meth adict.

sorry I'm just very annoyed with my parents right now and would definatly move out of the house if I could afford to live on my own and go to all the competitions I'd like to go to next year
