Argentina summer

Yo I know it's early, but I need to start planning now. 

England just failed to qualify for Euro 2008, so now that none of the teams in the tournament matter to me, I've decided I don't think I'm going to Europe next summer.

Argentina is a natural choice. The dollar is kicking ass down there and I can get out of the heat of the south and ski pow for a few months. Does anybody know anything about Las Lenas? Ideally I'd try to get some sort of internship down there so that I could pad my resume while I'm skiing and maybe offset some costs. Soooooo for anyone who's been there...what's it like? Is it super expensive once youre there? What are the best places to start looking for a cool job? I want a job that can help me once I graduate, otherwise I'd just instruct or be a liftie, so if anyone has any advice for getting in touch with the front office, lemme know.

Oh yeah, and if anyone else is gonna be down there, tell me. Maybe we could split housing and kick it. Laaaaater.

i'm from bariloche that's like 1000 miles from las lenas, what i recomend is this, i f you came with 1000 pounds (brit money) you'll be a king here, it;s like 6000 pesos here, which u could spend the whole season without working, just skiing, the only expensive is the lif ticket that depend which resort you are in.
if u just want to ski and nothing else las lenas is a good choice, cause in the village there is nothing else to do, a tiny bar and acouple of restaurants and that's about it.
instead bariloche has everything,. there's a small city 15 miles from the resort, with pubs, discos, and many excursion to do if you plan to visit a bit.. (also way much cheaper for living) the lift ticket is the only expensive

So with like 3 grand (US) i could do a whole season rather nicely? Can you rent a house in a ski village there or do you have hostels or what? im really interested in doing that next year also.

yah that sounds pretty nasty, could we get away with 3 grand somehow? id only be there for like 2 months so if i could last in argentina for that long with only 3 thousand that'd be awesome. is it hard to get to bariloche from buenos aires? id probably just chill in BA for the first week or so...

you definitely could spend 2-3 months with 3 grands.
also it depends up to you if you go out every night. but of course you can live perfect eith that money, you can rent a house (which is more expensive like 3 or 4 hundred dollars a month) or stay in hostels that are everywhere and fulled equiped. Food is Really good and cheap. and as i told u the lift ticket isthe expensive thing about 900 dolars for the whole season maybe if you stay less it'd be lot less.
you can fly or go by bus from ba to bariloche. bus is always cheaper.. is like 18 hours but that's up to your pocket.

Do they have  pass that works for like a bunch of resorts? How is the public transit down there?

from what i understand the major resorts are reaaaaaaally spread out, by like thousands of miles. there are smaller hills around the major mountain setups, but i doubt they have a super easy transit system like they do between, like, breck-keystone-vail, etc. if you wanted to go someplace else youd be better off just goin for a couple days probably and getting day passes

but fuuuuuuuck you can get a house for 3 or 4 hundo a month?? jesus, if i got one or two other guys together we could be sooooooo set. im just talking about going down there from like june to the beginning of august, so it'd be cheap as balls. im probably only gonna go out maybe a couple nights every week, im trying to ski as much as possible. but yeah, we'd definitely party a little bit. pretty much all of my friends speak a little bit of spanish, and a bunch of us are pretty damn good cause we've been taking it since kindergarten. this sounds like it could be a lot of fun...

just enough...this is the most appetizing idea ive had in a while...

we've been to europe a bunch but it's just soooooo expensive right now, plus our dad wants us to scout out argentina since it's on the verge of blowing up and the investment opportunities down there are pretty sweet.

my only problem is that i sortve need to take one or two summer classes to graduate on time, and they dont get out until june 20th, and i want to go down there for as long as possible...im trying to find a way to get out of them or get an independent study i can do on the road, hopefully it'll help that im taking a loaded schedule next semester

Not sure if I'm 100% correct, but friends who have been down there for camps the past few summers have told me prime time is more like late Aug/Sept, June is very early season I think.

yah mid june is like when they open, but ive got to go then because ive got to be back at school around late august for my last semester in the east...ill probably go to buenos aires for a week or two just to hang out while the snow starts to pile up. even if it's not peak season though, i dont really care, it's better than spending all summer in the south...plus ill be graduating that winter so ill be in colorado soon enough, so it's just an excuse to go on an adventure and get some skiing in during summer.

Ive been reading that late july august is the best. Think opposite of our seasons. This idea is really really good. Rent a big ass house. It actually sounds like a sweet film project. That would be so rediculously sick.

as you were saying best time for skiing in arg would be by the end of july (cause july would be like as crowded as christmas time for us) august is always the best, no people and the best snow ti mid or end of september when spring begins.
as you say the best 2 mountains (catedral in bariloche, and las lenas are like almost 1000 miles away) but yes you have many other resorts in between. the cost of the transport to the smaller resorts it;s pretty cheap, and you get many buses everyday.
almost every other resort is cheaper (lif ticket expet by Bayo which is the smaller and probably de the worst park only good with pow like a deer valley for us)
you;d wanna go to Chapelco (3 hour from bariloche) that would have the best park next year) 3 perfect kickers in line (i know it';s nothing compared to USA but it's the best around here bur pretty fun

Man, that price to stay and ski is very attractive.

The craziest part is that airfare from New York to Vancouver, round-trip is similar in price as round-trip from New York to Buenos Aires.

im just wondering about the airlines, are they decent down there? it sounds like the best way to get to the resorts from BA is by plane...but yeah, im almost definitely gonna hit this up this summer.

yah ive got to go back to school in august, but like i say, im not too worried about it...ill be in colorado permanently starting next winter when i graduate...but yeah, this bariloche thing sounds like a good idea. i really just want to investigate argentina. ill probably go to buenos aires for 2 weeks, then bounce down to a resort for 3 or 4 maybe...anyway, it should be a fun time, im gonna start doing some serious research over winter break.
