For Shop Guys or All Knowing: personal DIN question

okay I am 5 feet tall, weigh about 110 pounds.  I got new Scratch Brigade Pros sz. 151 and Salomon z10 bindings.  I've been skiing since I was 6 and I live in Wisconsin so I'd say I'm a level 3 skier.   I took my skis to be mounted yesterday and the shop guy set my DIN to 5 on both.  My old DIN was 7 so I was wondering what you guys thought about it?   Did he set it right or did the guy before?                          Please help!   Thanks..   Love, Gretchen

I would just ski them for a bit, and if you don't have any problems with your skis coming off all the time, just leave them. You can always just raise the DIN later  on if your skis just keep popping off. If I ahve to work on my bindings, I just go to teh rental shop at my hill and they let me use their tools.

where in WI are you?

for a 100 lb type 3 skier a din of around a 5 or 6 seems bout rigt. if you are popping out, take em back.

I actually live/ski in about 4 states, ski in some more..  But home base is Wisconsin Rapids-Stevens Point area.. The geographical center of the state.. Otherwise i ski in Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and Montana..

I will ski on them this week then and see, thanks for the help.

your shop guy is correct in his setting.  But like others said you may want to crank them a little is you are prereleasing

if you dont think its enough grab a screwdriver and go to town on it. mine were originally set at 3 because of my height and weight. needless to say, i cranked the fuck out of them

also remember, the smaller your boot, the higher your din. not just based on your height weight and ski ability. but 5 to 6 should be good.

5 is good unless you are preleasing on a lip or landing.  if you fall and they come off, that is a good thing.

yes that sounds about right, like everyone said.

you said you got new boots, so if the boots are bigger the DIN setting goes down.

oh, i misread.... either way sounds good.

you know what would really help is if you tell us your sole length on your boot which should be on yur heel and is in milimeters.

crank a 10 din binding up to 12. not sure how that works


I'd say 5-6 is technically correct. ski it for a bit and if it pre-releases too much, then crank it up

i missed that part of the post, my bad.....crank that shit to 10 (if that is possible) and deal.

world cup sports always puts mine around 7 then i have to fuck with it and spend my time to fix them, although fixing/working on skis is fun work. i still paid for it to be done for me haha

They set it to that due to industry standards. They cannot set them higher themselves due to legal/liability reasons.

As everyone has said, if they hold you in, leave them. if you're pre-releasing on lips or landings, put them up 1-2 settings.

im 5 foot about 100 lbs and put level 3 and they alway set my din to like 4 1/2...cuz leagllay a ship can only set it by the guildlines...but i always pop out...i think mine are set to 6 right now. do you know how to change it? its wicked easy...but the shop is only doing what they can leagally.

Here's what you do. Bring a screwdriver to the hill in your pack. Hit a little roller or a smallish jump, do a 180, landing switch but leaning forward so you land on your noses and put a little weight on them. Did your ski(s) come off? If so, crank the din up 1 and try again.

There's no sense cranking them up past the point of safety... you'll be much happier having knees.

Accodring to a rossignol chart at level 3, 295mm BSL, with your height/weight, you should be set to 5.5 (Bear in mind that is a rossignol binding setting, so could very well be different for salomon bindings)

Give them half a turn, see how they go - if you still have the same issue, go another half etc.

With your height/weight, You shouldn't need much more than 6, it can also depend on the binding as well.

i.e I'm 5'10, 160, level 3, 315bsl and i'm skiing on risso bindings at a din of 7 which seems fine for me

last winter i was abour 130-140 and i had my p12s at 6. they didn't come off. i ahve big feet, but nonetheless it just dpeneds on everythign everyone is saying.
