Ski techs strike again

I took my bacons in to have them mounted earlier in October. The day after I dropped them off the girl calls me and asks, "so when you say an inch and a half (+3.5) back from the true center, you mean the line on the ski where it says mid sole?"

I say, "Yes, and please do not confuse this with +3.5 from the midsole line. I like to ski backwards and like the extra tail. Mount them on the suggested line."

She sounded pretty skeptical but agreed to do it. I do not know how anyone could be confused by clear instructions. Sure enough, I pick up my skis and they are mounted way the hell back, like +7 from true center, total free ride Seth Morrison stance; exactly +3.5 or 4 from the midsole line. Goddammit. Unfortunately, I was in a huge rush and have just noticed this tonight, after picking them. The shop I go to has always been really chill and helpful, and I tried to give clear instructions but they totally f'ed me on this one. I have seen this happen to lots of other kids on NS and I even tried to prevent it.

I would be okay with it but I am pretty sure having the skis mounted that far back will mess with the whole design of the ski, elliptical sidecut and butter snowboard feel. Can anyone confirm this? Also, should I go back to the shop and demand a remount or something? Thanks NS.

Be nice about it, but explain to the shop that they didn't mount the skis in the position that you specifically asked for.  It won't pay to be a jackass in this situation.

talk to your local store, most cases they'll just replace the whole ski and line has a good warantee too!

Don't be pissed at the shop, just go back and tell them nicely that they screwed up, and that you'd like it if they could remount for free or something. If they say no, then start to get angry.

I try to tell everyone to draw a line on their ski where they want it mounted, but nobody listens, so this shit happens all the time.

If the shop is chill go in and be cool about it explain to them what happened and that they messed up on your skis. I know the shop I work in wouls remount for sure but they should also give you something to make up for it like a refund on the original mount or discount in the store for stuff cuz by remounting a new ski you are kinda damaging it and yeah it will ride fine but anything after 3 mounts and your getting sketchy. so talk to them and be cool and it should work out

The lame part is that it would be the third mount for the skis, throwing the resale value down the toilet.

I'd go in and talk to them be assertive but not a dick and see what kind of benefits you can make fro their screwing up, at least a free remount or a pair of new skis even if that can be worked. but seriously to everybody who has had the shop mount their skis wrong DRAW A LINE AS TO WHERE YOU WANT YOUR MIDSOLE TO LINE UP. and talk directly to the tech who will be mounting your skis so they will understand what you want.

Eh, your post confused me. First off, + would mean forward, not backward, so "+3.5 back" is a stupid thing to put on your form. Are you saying that the midsole is already 3.5 back of true? And if so then why the fuck didn't you just tell them to mount on the line??

^ Yeah, i get what you are saying.. i think he meant 3.5 back from true center, but they mounted 3.5 back from midsole

the whole "+3.5 back" thing confuses me as well..

All in all, it depends what was written on the work order card, as to whether it was miscommunication, vagueness or a retarded technician..now that i re-read this it sounds like there was some minor fault on both sides..
Whats done is done though.

You said 3.5 back from mid sole. That's why you have so much nose but not alot of tail.
Your fault, be accountable for being a retard and not being visually/physically clear about what you want. Draw a line on your ski. Simple as that.

this sounds like its happening way too much. When i got my skis, the shop wasn't busy, so I just went and hung out in the workshop while they were mounting my skis.

does not make much sense either. if you did infact tell the girl what you told us word for word, no wonder the skis didnt get mounted where you wanted them, your instructions do not make much sense. if they will be nice enough to remount then awesome but i think you need to place the blame on yourself here for giving poor instructions to the shop. in the future MEASURE IT OUT YOURSELF AND MARK A LINE WHERE YOU WANT THEM MOUNTED

Draw the line in the shop with the tech watching you. Better yet, get to know the tech personally, and this will be much less likely to occur.

Ok I cant even figure out what you meant by that, you were going back and forth between mid sole line and true center and +'s and -'s, those were the worst directions ever. there is only one point on a ski that should EVER be used as a reference point for mounting and that is TRUE CENTER. Why companies have not caught on to this is beyond me, it is the only point that's always the same. the true center of the running surface of a ski should be what companies always mark. you gave messed up directions I'm sorry I don't think it's really their fault.

and if you don't get why your instructions were wrong, it's because mid sole and true center are no the same, so when she asked you that you should've said "Helllllllll no, I want them 3.5 cm back from the true center of the ski." all k2s mounting points are way far back.

Haha yep... just picked up my skis and brought them home first to mark then ill bring them back. Ive been fucked over once with a pair of Enemys being mounted way the fuck back there
