Replying to Putting music on my phone

I have a lg music phone its a LG vx8300 and looks like this http://mobile17.com/images/phones/LG-VX8300.gif

I have a 1 gb mini sd card my friend gave me to put in it, but no cord to hook my phone the computer. He also gave me an adaptor to make it a full size sd card. I put the sd card in another mp3 player and went to my computer, and found the 1 gb card and put songs on it as .mp3s but when i put the card into the phone theres no music on it it was 0 K is on the card.

Is there a special format for the music or what am i doing wrong?
