OK, I am head of a wed. night program at KB that will offer an all age family oriented "race training" session including SL and GS, full length courses, begineer courses and drill courses including snowboard GS panels and with mother natures OK we will have some boarder/skier cross practice as well. If I let you guys ski backwords through a SL course would you sign up? I have pretty much a green light on this and hope to introduce some folks to competitive skiing and am looking for ideas on how to include some of ya'all from the "newschool". I know a skier cross night would work, but would do I need to do to bring you over Slalom Run on Wednesday nights. All ideas on how to freshen up the scene on Wed. nights will be taken seriously, so fire away.
I think that could be fun, and would do it if I were in the area. I'm not so sure about the younger crowd though, a lot of them worry too much about current trends, and to a lot of them racing still isn't cool. Maybe kids at KB have grown out of that though, its still like that in VT a bit. I think a boarder/skier cross course would help attract them, if you can get the snow together. A a backwards race would be wicked fun as well.
Ahaha, a backwards race would be nuts, I wouldn't suggest you letting anyone without twintips do it, or anyone not decent at turning backwards, but I'd be into it for shnitsngiggles. I can't think of many ideas, but that race down crazy 8s was a good idea last year, maybe throw up a few more of those. Or maybe some kind of race/ trick deal, kind of like skier/boarder cross, but judge in grabs and tweaks as a few .10s of a second off...? maybe throw in a cliff to huck or a gap to cross for good measure. Just ideas.
I plan on ripping gates at least a few times this winter. It'll be fun.
I'm likely going to dig out my old, heavy skis because my twins likely won't have much in the way of edges left.
The skier/boarder cross on Moment would be awesome. I'd love to see KB draw demo days as well with some selection of freeskiing skis. Schedule some bigger-scale events too that would draw kids from Bristol out.
Mainly, I'm thinking an event like the Red Bull Big Air from a few years ago, or even a Newschoolers collaboration like back in 2003 or whenever that was. Draw some kids from outside the immediate area. Get kids from bristol out, maybe even Ohio kids that would normally go to Holiday and even some Toronto kids.
Get some sponsors, some promotion on here, and word of mouth and get a bigger event going.
The small shop events are cool, but the vibe in the park is amazing when you get a whole bunch of kids from outside the area coming in and just raising the stoke.
And I got WAY off topic here. Haha. You know where I stand though!
Langmen has official been named as the Park Event coordinator, in the past this ship was pretty much rudderless. This should translate in a better comp/event sched. for the season ahead. Not expecting much feedback concerning gate racing here, but I want to spread the word about the Wed. night sessions as I hope to make this a very INCLUSIVE program, all ages all kinds of sliders.
