VAIL (AP) - Two Colorado ski resorts are postponing their opening days because of warm weather.
Vail
Resorts Inc. says it will open Vail Mountain ski area Wednesday, the
day before Thanksgiving, instead of on Friday as initially planned.
Steamboat Springs says it will open on November 30 instead of Wednesday.
Andy Wirth, a spokesman for Steamboat owner Intrawest, says warmer weather is creating challenges for snowmaking machines. He says crews are working to manufacture more snow as the weather turns colder.
Vail Mountain Chief Operating Officer Bill Jensen says an expected shift in weather patterns should produce low temperatures that will allow his resort to step up snowmaking.
He says it appears the first significant storm of the season is expected next week.
