you wont find any goodgrad schools near resorts. i guess you could go to LA and then hit up big bear or mountain high but those could hardly be called resorts.
Actually, it's nobody in california calls it cali. Everybody from other states call it that. Not even drug dealers or rappers call it cali anymore. I live near San Francisco, and the closest resorts are 3 hours away, if you are down to make the weekend trip and have good enough grades, UC Berkeley is a pretty good choice. I live about ten minutes from Berkeley and the drive to Tahoe is about 4 hours long, but to the closest resort, it's 3 hours (Boreal).
4 hours? from Lafayette dude? please tell me you're joking that its taking you that long. I've gotten from Concord to Kirkwood or Sugar Bowl in under 3 hours on many many occasions... Especially on weekdays leaving at 5am. get there before 8 and rest up a bit before shredtime at 830.
UC Berkeley would never be my first choice when it comes to close to skiing, because its in the bay area... lots of traffic trying to get out of that bitch... a shit ton of things to do other than skiing... but if you're looking for skiing an a pretty good regular basis, dont go there... then again, with how high the standards are and the luck you need to get in (and by luck, I mean it)... you probably wont have a choice.
I'm planning on transferring to San Jose St. or UCSC next year. Probably poor choices, seeing as it could take up to 4 hours to get to Tahoe from each, but they are stupid close to the beach, so great surfing. which is my 2nd love. I might even go to Fullerton if I find something about that place that draws me there (the snow isnt that great all the time regardless of its proximity, and the town kinda sucks... so unless the program they have is super sick, I wont be going there)
If I was going to go to a CALIFORNIA school, primarily just to go skiing, it would have to be sacramento state. Its the closest to Tahoe, right off the freeway, so its a straightshot up 80. There are also a good amount of decent ski shops in the area, so you could get some discounted tickets if you're not planning on a season pass... which I highly recomend there...
with that said, if I could get into UNR without having to pay out of state fees, then that would be a no doubter... 30 mins from skiing, and 3 hr from mammoth? ohhh yeah.
if so, I reccomend begging your parents to let you move and finish out senior year here. else you're going to have to apply for residency and that takes days.
Well, i was gonna finish the post but i had to go to class. I have first period off, and then the bell rang but i was gonna say UCD and Reno as well. but yeah it takes like 4 hours to get to Squaw or Alpine, (the only resorts in Tahoe I really ride) and Boreal is like 3 hours.
