just go with the flow
That system is lame, add an extra day to the comp for qualifiers and let everyone compete who wants to and may the best man or woman win that event. Very Very lame what if someone like TJ had to go through that system and never got in the US Open. Im disapointed in whoever made the final call in this decision. I will be sking pow in Whistler myself but I feel bad for whoever doesnt get in that wants a spot.
So is it you who had the idea of the lottery? if not, I can't understand how you're defending it. Maybe you should think why you're the only one that thinks it's a good idea
the lotto may not be the best solution for getting participants, however, it does have its benefits.
the cost of entering the open last year was something like $125 per event, so in having a lotto it allows for the possibility for people interested on skiing the tour determine how much they value their spot. For some, they might not want to drop $125 to ski the open, but could afford to risk $30 (just to get a spot).
yes the lotto allows for luck to play a role in the selection process, but while you can better your odds, there is no guarantee that you will get a spot, and therefore the luck is random. Random selection provides for the fairest opportunities for an "open" event.
there isn't much difference between entering the lotto and not getting a spot, and having a spot and not winning -- both are a game of chance (one requires luck while the other requires skill.)
All athletes accepted will be notified by email on Monday December 10th and charged in full..."
go drew!
so what if it is a lottery. if you really want to find a way into this sport you will pay as much as you can towards the lottery. this is one of the best ways to get known as a skier and if means something to you, you will most likely try your best to get in. how many of you have actually bought a lotto?
that takes away my support of the lotto system.
Maybe the open is hurting for $$ this year and think that they can recoup through the use of the lotto. it would be nice to hear where the money raised from the lotto will go.
