Car help

So my winter in a nut shell is driving from CT to VT every weekend, this weeekend was an eye opener. I went to mt. snow for a day trip and it took me 3/4 of a tank to make this 2 1/2 hour trip. That involves two fill ups to make it under 300 miles. Thats crazy when i used to drive my moms car it would take 1/3 of a tank to get up there. So people of NS, i need suggestions for a cheap reliable fuel efficient car. I dont  have much extra cash for a car, so pretty much im trying to find a car for sub 10,000 (that is my cars value now) Im not looking for an SUV, im just looking for a wagon or hatchback that can hold my ski gear surf gear, 4 friends and a dog lol, not all at once of course. Throw out ideas right now im looking at subaru outbacks, and impreza wagons, oh yeah this car has to have 4wd or awd

3/4 of a tank can be very differerent based on how big your tank is. sure you may fill it up twice, but it could still be as much gas.

what car are you driving now?

subarus are def the way to go.  such reliable cars, they go forever and are pretty good on gas.  the AWD is excellent for getting to the mountain when its snowy or meneuvering in the slippery parking lots.  I'd look into an impreza or any other subaru mainly for good gas and AWD

yea go with subaru. just make sure it is newer than 99, which im sure it will be if ur budget goes up to $10 k

Yeah subarus are cheap awd and get pretty damn good gas mileage.  Like when I first got my Legacy I was following my dad in my own car and he drives the speed limit and we were on a 2 lane highway so we were going like 55 the whole way.  The little mpg thing in my car said I got like and avg of 34.5 mpg.  But I dont drive that slow but I still get like at least 27 on highways.

2000 pathfinder, i think its an 18 gal. tank which isnt that small

early 90's Toyota Corolla wagon. such a sick ride. Mine handled icy east coast roads, mach speeds on the highway, aired frost heaves and speed bumps, really easy on gas: could go from PEI, Canada to Blue Hill, Maine on one tank, fits 5 large people+ ski gear (if you really try, it's not too comfy though). The engine was cooked after a little over 500 000 km, but still runs, just can't drive over 40 kmh. my friend has 1 from the 80s with similar mileage for a field car and it rips. you just have to remember to rust check it.

I have an old VW golf and it is great. I can drive the ~500km to Banff on just over a tank. Used ones aren't too expensive if you look hard enough.

i had a 92 subaru for a while, and now i have an 02, i would definitely recommend one for a ski car

maybe a used jetta i dont know what like an 02 would cost but they are good on gas and an hold skis with a seat down and still have 4 seats open
