x-games slopestyle, slope layout

i watched the x-games slopestyle on eurosport yesterday and i
noticed that about half of the obstacles were rails/jibs.
jibbing is cool and all, but come on, we're skiers not streetskaters.
there more interesting things to focus on than rails in skiing.
they should make it like 80/20, kickers/rails.
how many jumps were there, 4-5?
two money jumps(and bigger than the one they had now),
some mediums and some smalls would be good.
and jeez make the slope faster next time, that's ridiculous,
almost noone could hit the sharkfin cuz they didnt get enough
speed(hello!).
the riders had real problems with the slope and looked pretty
sketchy sometimes, didnt get much air.
well tanner deserved the win, jon was almost as good but a
little sketchy at the switch rodeo 5 and just a little at the
switch misty.

overall i thought the course was decent, except for the lack of speed. it would be nice to see more variety of jumps though....seemed pretty much just like regular table tops.

they should make one with cliff drops, rail to cliff drops, and other shit like that

JEeze... rails are part of park skiing. If there was 80/20 it just wouldn't be right.
I'd like to see all varieties of hits and tonnes of different rail shapes.
And a halfpipe in the middle of the course. That'd be sick.
There's so much more to park skiing than just hitting kickers. So many people who get into it forget that. It's really lame to just be a jumper and have no all around skills.

park skiing doesnt have to include rails, if your not into rails then your not into rails, it doesnt nessasarily mean someone who does rails all the time is better than u

it should be about half and half. the course was pretty flat. no speed. blah. i felt super bad for the boarders.

ok, if you don't like rails than you arn't going to do as good in a slopestyle - that's a fact. rails are (nomater how hard you wanna think otherwise) a huge park of park skiing. I don't think there is one pro prak skier who can't do rails, and if they can't than they sholdn't be a pro park skier - simple as that. so stop your bitching and just accept it.

true, rails look cool to a non skiing audience, so that is why they have so many of them because it opens eyes..everybody has seen a skier hit a jump before though

yeah the course was okay and as for people saying that boarders were better at rails(previous posts) i disagree .. the skiers were doing like switch on and off like nothing.. boarders did too but not as often.. they could have used more speed for sure and should have had a qp at the bottom or something..

I thought the course layout seemed decent. The sharkfin setup was horrible, the x games always have some gimmick setup in their parks and i hate it such a shitty commercialization thing that really blows. I think the course was way to slow, and the rails did kind of take away from the big kickers, which werent big enough i think. Oh well the x games are the x games and they will never be that great.

the rails were fine, the course needed more speed which leads to bigger jumps being made

YEAH right they should have more rails...skiings all about the rails these days...they should have a few more jumps...mabey they should make the course the length of entire run on the mountain and just load it with everyhthing possible, every jump, rail, boxes, and quarter pipe ever made....and just put it all in, and we would all be happy...

ok - if you guys have ever been in a slopestyle you'd know that it would be way to hard to a run down a whole mountain in one run busting out the best tricks you got... so many people would crash and lost when they should have placed high. a long course is good, but you can't overdo it.

A lot of those rails had hits that the riders could of taken, but they decided not to. Anyways like mike said it would be hard to throw down a lot of good tricks and have a flawless run.

yeah i agree with the idea that there should be a halfpipe in the run. only long enough for like 2 or 3 hits. and yeah i think it is cool that they have things that are different like the sharkfin, even if they are just using it as a gimmick it is different and different is good. peace

they could choose between rails and jumps?
cool, didn´t see that(they didn´t show or say that).
that´s good. then it´s a whole new thing.
am i bitchin? now, i just say what i think and i still think rails has zero to do with skiing no matter how much fun or cool it is.
more variety of jumps would be good. big, small, medium, pipe...
steele spence railed so much stylier than everyone else. tanner might have been pretty tech on the rails but looked a little sketchy sometimes.
well since ive only hit like 2 jibs in my whole life i dont know how hard it is but i think it´s about zero fun to watch on skis. skateboarding though...
and for allaround skills. what has rails got to do with that? yeah well then you have to count rails a s an allaround skill. and it is because, uh, it is.
doesn´t allaround skier mean bumps, race, big mountain and park?
slopestyle is rad though. big air doesn´t really make much sense in newschool.
peace.

all around means: turns-speed-pow-jump-pipe-rail-cliffs-bumps-steeps and the ability to do a polish bagel and to drink beer.

Yeah, like it or not, rails are here to stay. I find that most people who can't do them will say 'what's the point?' But once you start sliding rails, you get it.
Besides would you rather call yourself an all-around skier who doesn't like rails...
Or an all around skier who is afraid of absolutely nothing that there is to do on skis.
I prefer to not have an excuse for something that other skiers do.
It'd be like saying 'Yeah bumps are cool... but I just don't like how abusive they are to your legs.'
No salami dude. Rails are here to stay, they're hard, technical, fun to do, and are a big part of the skiing world.

salami dude, heh.
i suck on rails and i have never done em.
i´m never gonna hit any rails and never be a proffesional either for that matter. i just think it´s dull to watch and since it´s skiing we´re doing it´s more important what tricks you can do of kickers than what you can jib.
well you don´t agree. have a good day!

it's weired how some people don't do moguls, and think that the only people who do/like moguls are those that are on a mogul team. I love moguls, never actually been on a mogul team, but I just love doing moguls...

yeah I know what you're talking about Darryl. Before I wouldn't hit the moguls because I would just get thrown around and It was never fun. but now that I went on the Freeski course we were in the bumps so much that I've gotten better at them and they're so much fun.
And I know for a fact that I said this before I started doing rails. 'The only time I'll ever do rails is if i'm sponsored because then I won't mind wreking my skis' But as soon as I started sliding them I got a completely different view. I look at everything signs bridges handrails etc.. to see if they're Jibbable.

it just disturbs me that you are talking about allround-skiing as 'being able to do both kickers and rails'.
in park i´d say allaround is small tricks, medium tricks, big tricks, big kickers, small kickers, pipe AND rails. not kickers and rails.
and if we´re talking allaroundskier we´re talking big mountain, moguls, tricks, racing...
and if you can do all that but not rails, well you´re still an awesome allaroundskier but if you can only do rails and kickers you are def not.
and i can gladly say i suck on moguls too but i love it!

it was really good.
downhill urban type rail, single kinked rail, than a choice between a longish straight rail or the S rail... drops down to a really damn kicky table than you got a choice between a small table or a super curved rail, than you could hit either a big ass rainbow, big ass trapizoid, or a small uphill rail... than you can hit a distaster rail or a small jump right beside it, and last you got the big table. for the finals there was also a small jump and the quarterpipe after but i don't think those were judged.

if you wanted you could have done 4 rails and 4 jumps in the run, or 6 rails and 2 jumps... and anywhere in between, i thought it was a good course.

until you learn rails - stop saying that. the more rails the better - wether you like it or not.

until you can ski... sorry
it doesn´t matter if i can do it or not. i just think it´s plain dumb. this is skiing, there´s no need for rails here, let´s focus on what makes it skiing instead.
and for people eeing rails on x-games and thinking it´s cool.
NO, THEY DON´T ALL PEOPLE THAT I´VE HEARD JUST SAY WHY DO THEY DO THAT AND JUST THINK IT´S SILLY.

i can ski very well actually... no pro big mountain skier - but I can hold my own on any terrain.
and not only are rails a big part of skiing right now, they are a HUGE part of slopestyle. So the more rails in a slopestyle course the better.

Ok, rails are cool! If Fakiedropdude thinks that rails suck, you've never done them before. Rails are sick man, and its such a progression over plain, simple skiing. And if you dont like rails in slopestyle, then go watch big air comps. I find big air comps so boring compared to slopestyle.

if you think that rails aren't part of skiing then you'd have to exclude doing a 1080 from skiing as well. open your mind dude. Get some sack and try a rail before you say shit about them.

its true. no matter how much u like or dislike them, rails are a huge part of skiing
