I'm not sure if there's anything closer, it's worth the drive though. I'm pretty sure they have some sort of shuttle service too.

Really? I want to stay in a youth hostel with about 4 other friends, and then somehow go skiing out west somewhere... the problem is the only hostel I found was in Portland...

hood is about 1:300 away from portland but bachelor is a lot farther. It is more like 3 hours at least. But both are so sick and do able day trips from portland
(trust me, the '' things aren't actually there)

I got back a little while ago from driving Portland, Hood, and Bachelor.

Portland to Hood area: hour and half
Portland to Bachelor: 3 hours

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.
