Replying to Road Trip

I'm getting pretty sick of the east, so the after highschool, i want to take a year off and head out west to hit up the mountains just outside the range of the olympics that will be devoid (hopefully) of tourists. How much moneys do you think i'll need? I've got some places to stay, but i thought i'd get an idea early on so i dont end up 3 grand short of what i'll need. Plus any suggestions for places to go that i wouldn't think of would be appreciated.
