so i'm sure (i hope) im not the only one on here who suffers from excessive underarm sweating, even when it's not hot out, or if im not doing anything. it's really bad and it causes me to only be able to buy dark colored shirts otherwise you see the pit sweat marks and it's really bad in school. not to mention it makes me even more nervous in certain situations where im already nervous. not even joking, im sweating right now.
disgusting, i know. but admitting you have a problem is the first step.
and yes, i even went to the doctor to get perscription help and used this liquid stuff for 3 months over summer, and zero results. so a few years back when i realized i had a problem, i started e-mailing every major personal care/hygene company i could find, asking them to make a stronger anti-perspirant because nothing could fully stop or even retard my underarm sweating (retard- as in 7th grade vocabulary word that no one really uses in sentences anymore).
if i got any response from those companies, it was just to try their deoderants which i had already told them did not work. so much for the help. i think some companies are finally catching up now, however, and realizing that there are a lot of people out there that worry about perspiration.
a few weeks ago i saw an ad for women's Secret brand deoderant. it was labeled as "Clinical Strength" and had a fancy bar graph to show that their new deoderant was just as strong as "Clinical Strength" stuff. it caught my attention even though it was for women, because i knew this meant progress for other companies. I was right, and not only a few days later do i see a commercial for Gillete's Clinical Strength Deoderant. man am i pysched now. finally, they're starting to listen.
so today while i was riding my bike around with a friend, i decide to search for this new deoderant and try it out. an hour and half, 13 stores, and 2 milky ways later, no luck finding it. every store said they hadn't recieved shipment yet, and it might be a while before they get any. my efforts didn't prove totally futile, however, because i found out some valuable information (which i could've easily found out online had i just looked).
while looking for the mens's gillette deoderant, i saw the womens Secret Clinical Strength kind. i checked out the back to see the active ingredient of anti-perspirants- 'Anhydrous' which i always check when buying a deoderant. it's measured in percentages, and most run between 16-18%, the most being 19%, which i always buy. so seeing this "clinical strength" i was ready to see something great and far beyond anything else. i turn the bar around, and what do i see:
20%. "are you kidding me," i say aloud for those to hear in aisles 1-3 in CVS. i compare the other ingredients to make sure the secret formula isn't hidden somewhere in there. nothing to be found. I have hope though, thinking, "well this is just the women's kind, the men's will be much stronger because that's just the way things are."
so now let's get to present time, 10:50ish EST. my shower is finished and i can't stop thinknig about the gillette deoderant. i don't know why i hadn't thought of it before, but i finally realize that the internet can solve any problem, and they have to have it on there. for once i'm right and i see a store online that carries it. maybe it was the excitement of just seeing the box and bar, or maybe it was the reasonable price that threw my mind off for a second, but i was about to order it without even looking at the specs. like buying a ski solely on the graphics, this would have been a very bad idea indeed.
I snap back and start scrolling down, looking for the ingredients. slowly i scroll, as if i really didn't want to see it, but i knew i had to. my heart rate increases and i need a drink of water. i finally see the bold headline "Ingredients," and i hold my breath. i don't know why, it just seemed like the thing to do at the time.
i release the air from my esophogus and mouth region, allowing myself to again say "are you kidding me." this time, however, only i hear my desperate cry. Just like the women's 'Clinical Strength,' im dissapointed to see "Anhydrous- 20%." as a final desperation move, i check through every ingredient twice, comparing it to what i use now, and still nothing different. technically it's not even 11pm, but to me, the day is dead.
as funny as that story might seem, everything was true, and i am truly dissapointed with these products. i have not tried either, however, so i can't fully knock it until i try it. i hope if anything, this thread has brought knowledge, laughs, or even tears at the realization that this "Clinical Strength" stuff might just all be a bunch of shenanigan's. deep in my heart, though, when i do finally purchase this deoderant, i hope i am able to come back here and say that i was proved wrong and it works wonderfully for the prevention of perspiration.
if you took the time to read that saga, i hope you enjoyed.
(o yea and if anyone has tried either secret or gillette clinical strength deoderant, and wish to share their experience, that'd be great.)
