its sad,,but i just realized that the icer air didnt interest me at all. its a bunch of huge name pros doing the same tricks over and over. wheres the originality? wheres the creativity? im disappointed

He appears at the top of the jump, which is A HUGE SURPRISE to the announcers (as if he wasnt the one who got the event started in the first place... the first one being 3 years ago) and he comes down in a T and some really... odd shorts... tries some backscratcher -something- backscratcher mogul move, which any hotdogger from the SEVENTIES could throw, and absolutely eats shit at the bottom and faceplants into the snow. He came out later during the finals, IN SKI PANTS. NOT SHORTS. and threw a simple backflip. Gotta give the man props though.. he did have a lot of influence on the early freeskiing world. Dinner Roll anyone?

Talib Kweli and Mos Def killling it afterward - totally worth it. The skiing was fantastic as well and the parties went off. Pollard and his art and Iberg and their movie at Dstructure was super sick too. I can't say I thought about Moseley too much.

yea but jon shoundt of won....the kang flip is so over rated i mean its a sick trick but when u do taht for every contest every single time it gets old and something new needs to happen or alteast put some more variation in teh tricks

It was so cool seeing the double flat 9 or kango or whatever you like to call it, in real life. Seeing it on TV is old, but seeing it actually thrown, is something else.

not only that, but seeing it thrown in San Francisco of all places? Pretty damn sweet. I'm stoked that they were actually able to throw really smooth and sick tricks on the jump this year. Last year the jump was a piece of riggamortis scaffolding and it sucked huge wang. this year, the jump was a thousand times better in every way.

gripes? how much it freaking costed to get in. Last year it cost like 10? 20 bucks? It wasnt that bad at all. this year, the whole weekend cost 50+, and the vendors were separated from the event, which is kinda a bummer. They also didnt have a girls event this year, which I can totally understand because of how shitty the jump was last year for them. They couldnt get enough speed, and were knocked around in the shitty tranny.. and then Kaya Turski ate shit.. and then some snowboarder fell in the net of death... All bad. Michelle Parker won with a 3? yeah... it didnt go very well. However, with how much better the jump was this year, I would have liked to see the ladies try it... according to the article about it on the front page, it was exactly the same jump as was at Freestyle.ch. only, it was 20% bigger in every single way. I hope I will get to see ladies rip again next year. Should be fun.

but all in all, it was put together really realllly well. The jump was solid, of course. The skiiers were about the same as what they had last year... minus the ladies... and surprisingly, there were less vendors for some strange reason... especially on the side of snowboarding. there were in fact NO snowboarding booths in the village. No Burton. No Ride. No nothing... and even Roxy even had more of a skiing friendly element, due to its friendly proximity to Dynastar/Lange next door. (hot chicks too) But with all that it was still super sick. The moment guys showed up, which was sweet... same with Dynastar as formentioned, and Volkl too, but I didnt talk to them much, haha. Sucked for the core boarders though, who might have wanted to see some snowboarding booths, but whatev. 

oh, and who can hate on free shwag, free lift tickets, contests to win trips to whistler, montana, hawaii, and FRANCE? Not to mention severely discouned Skullcandy stuff...

it's sad because jonny moseley would be the best skier in the world right now if he hadn't sold out. the man stomped a backflip off a 70-footer in the middle of a sick curtain line, did the first flat spin 9 and 10, and did a 12 in the pipe after he had virtually retired. and then there's the madtrix video game intro . . .

yea from watching jon's video, it's seems like the pitch of the landing was messed up, it was causing a lot of trouble... i didn't really see one clean landing. but on the more positive side no one got seriously injuried and the jump wasn't sketchy this year!

In the last part of the finals simon says to the camera "Jon stop being so good..."  hahaha

Dude, everyone else threw a cab 10.  The only people that did some different stuff was like a double back 180, or 2 or 3 times a 12 was attempted. Jons double flip is way sicker then a cab 10 to me, way more style. thrown on a jump in sf. Jon was by far the winner IMO. I thought he should have tried it switch or something the second attempt, it was pretty obvious he was gonna win.

Oh btw, when the awards are handed out, Jon tosses his 1st place trophy to a girl in the crowed.

Yeah.. Sean Field was the only other guy who even had the balls to do something insane like that. He tried a double back 180.. which frankly isnt as impressive as say.. a kanga, but its still potential podium material. I'd rather watch a kanga flip than a spin to win any day. I hate all of you that go out and say "oh, this is just the same old bag of tricks that we always see" when A: None of you can even come CLOSE and B: what do you want these guys to do? pull of their skis in midair, rewax them, and throw them back on their bindings while doing a triple corked 1620? This isnt SSX guys. This is real life. The sheer fact that these guys are all in the same boat as far as tricks is impressive as it is... and being that NOBODY ELSE does the Kangaroo flip, especially as solidly as Jon does it, says a lot about Jon's talent, and how good he really is. He's one of the few athletes that competes in every discipline too. Slopestyle... Halfpipe... big air... shit... he does it all guys, and he does it just as good if not better in all categories than anyone else. He was clearly the victor here. Sure, all of you claim that "oh, i'd rather see some realllly steezed out 7 win" or "oh, I wish that someone would have thrown something new" but right now, nobody has progressed to that point, or at least feel that they can pull off anything new on a jump that was just thrown together 2 weeks ago, and has a shit-ton of fake snow layed in on it. The fact that at least ONE person was throwing new tricks was impressive as it was... being that Sean Field was throwing down double backs that he hadnt even attempted in previous competitions. Mad props to that guy for showing up big.. regardless of his final standing, he was one of the best competetors all day long.

I liked the awards ceremony... all the winners threw shwag into the crowd. except for 1 of the snowboarders... neg karma to him haha. Travis Rice threw HIS SNOWBOARD into the crowd. I was afraid it would shank somebody haha. and then Jon Olsson coulda knocked someone out by throwing his hardware out there... even though he pretty much just tossed it gently. Somebody who got that probably doesnt even follow skiing though, and calls him "john"... sad.

anyone who goes to icer air is going to have a good time.  i went with 6 friends and drove six hours to get there and was way late to work today after driving back and it was totally worth it.  Me and my girlfriend were the only skiers out of the group and all my snowboarders friends were saying the skiers were way more impressive and fun to watch.  this event gives a lot of attention to freesryle skiing and is just a lot of fun to go to.  the jump was way cleaner and best of all i got to meet ingrid backstrom :)

Icer Air is a legitimate competition. The athletes are in it to win the competition first. Then they can address throwing the newest tricks or something they may not land later. They are also responsible for pleasing a very mainstream crowd, where double back flips and front flips get the biggest response. The audience doesn't know the difference between a 1080 and 1440, and prolly don't care. They do know flips look more difficult. The judging addressed the cleanest trick and that was clearly Jon. Also remember this is November and no one is really skiing yet. The newest shit is going to go down later in the season. It's got a lot to do w/ timing - who wants to crush themselves in November, especially when this is normally off time for most competitors. I'm just stoked they can attract the talent they did. Sick show and great event.
