Another Apple Tread, But Please Help

Ok before anyone whines, ive used the search function and couldn't find my answer

I've been saving soem cash for a new comp, and i decided to make the switch to apple.
I've been in to look at the new MacBooks (which are currently my price range)
They look sick, but the only apple i've used before was my friends G4 PowerBook

So before i went and looked at the new MacBooks i looked for a PowerBook.
For around 1200 i could get a 1.6ghz 15inch G4 powerbook loaded with Apreture, Adobe CS2 Suite, Microsft Office 11.
This machine sounded sicknasty and had everythin i wanted.

But then it hit me, im buying an old computer.
The operating system is OSX 10.4 which i would probably upgrade to Leopard.
Will this machine fail me cause it's old?
I'm looking past the ram and hard drive cause that's upgradeable, but do any mac users think this machine will become obsolete in the next say 5 years?

I know it sounds dumb but i wanna make sure this'll work before i drop my hard earned cash on it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

all technology becomes obsolete within a coule of years now because of those bastards in the commercial business trying to get our money. just get the best macbook you can buy with your money and change the RAM and storage when you have the money. I have a macbook and they are really solid computers.

ok   well i just looked at the my original post and it's long and boring.

Here's the sparknoted version: Would you suggest a Fully Loaded PowerBook G4 or a bottom of the line MacBook??

i too would say go with the macbook, especially if you want it to last u into the five year range. plus u can pirate programs if you want them. and those all sound nice too but think about wether or not ur going to even be using all of them. software=free, hardware=expensive.

If I were you, I would by a standard macbook, then upgrade the memory to 2gb, upgrade the graphics card, and buy a 500gb external drive. External drives are a lot cheaper then an internal drive these days.

no computer really has a life over 3- to 4 years in my mind.....they get too slow.

yea well im goin into uni next year and i want it to last me my whole time there.

Does anyone run Apreture and/or Adobe Premier off a MacBook???
Any complaints??

upgrading the graphics card on a mac book = buying a macbookpro, u cant upgrade it

i would say to get the most "sicknasty" deal is the newer macbook

It really depends on what you want to do.

The screen on a MacBook is too small for video editing or photoshopping (in my opinion). If the Powerbook you're looking at has a 1440x900 display it's gonna be a lot better for that task, and is by no means slow. However it's an old computer and probably won't last you more than 2 years + would be very expensive to fix if it might get damaged. For that reason alone I would recommend against buying an old Powerbook and to save up for a new one.

oh and get the 3-year apple care program when you buy a mac.

soooooo apparently they are updating the labtops soon...so i'd hold off.

chekc this site, it tells you when to buy a mac or not based on updates.

I think that it is going to be your best bet to go with a brand new computer.
