Choosing the right ski...

Hello everyone!
I am currently looking to buy some twins for this coming season.
These will be my only pair of skis, so I need a bit of versatility.

Skill: Int+ (I can rip blacks with no huge problems, the odd trip up but thats all)
Age: 22
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 130 lbs.
(yeah I know, I'm a skinny guy...)
Area: Ontario, Canada (East) groomers/park/bit of power

Since these will be my only set of skis I am willing to consider a variety of options and prices.
I want to get into the park but still be able to carve the groomers.
60% groomers / 40% park
Side Note: I like speed and freestyle, even off groomer hills I try and catch air.

I have been looking at a variety of models and I've been looking at:
Rossi Scratch Sprayer
Line Chronic
Moment Reno (or Reno Jib - is there any real difference other than being symmetrical?)

Also, what would be a good binding for groomer/park?

I'm 5'6, 120lb, and ski Ontario too.

I found the 168cm Scratch Sprayer FS isn't the greatest at making turns, even when the edges were sharp. I wouldn't be surprised if it got chattery at high speeds. It is pretty friendly in the park though.

Line Chronics; Volkl Wall, or Karma if you can find some from last year; K2 Public Enemy I also have heard that Moment is bombproof, but can't give a good opinion on them because I've never actually seen a pair. for bindings, I would recommend the Look px12s.

I'd go with chronics for a good all around ski that can haul ass.

They might seem pretty stiff to you though at 130lbs.

PS - Might I add that you are a freaking beanpole? Damn. I'm 6'0" and am 195, and am not fat by any means.

Id really go with the rossi scratch, they ride like a park ski in the park, but also are equally as amazing on the mountin, there also probably the most rugged out of any ski ou there. if your looking for a ski that you will use year after year then the scratch is probably the best choose.

He should note that this is the regular Scratch, NOT the sprayer. Even if you're skinny, I think the sprayer is gonna be too soft for you for all-mountain performance.

I wouldn't imagine the Scratch Sprayer to be a decent all-round performer, if you want to ski 60% groomers 40% park. If you want a Rossignol ski, I'd say the '07 Scratch FS WRS would perform better than the Sprayer both in and out of the park. The FS WRS is really light, and the Moment Reno Jib is a pretty similar weight (it's really light). The Reno Jib is just a more park-orientated version of the Reno... now depending on where you want to mount, both can perform well all-mountain. If you're worried about tail-catch on mogul runs and stuff (if you do lots of moguls), then maybe you should go with the Reno. I don't know much about the Line Chronic, I've never been on one, but I can say that people do seem to have a pretty good opinion of it.

Another ski I would add to that list is the AR6. It's waist is pretty similar to the other skis, making it a good all-round performer on the hill. It's been considered as a pretty solid ski too, though it may be heavier compared to the Reno Jibs & Scratch FS WRS (I'm not sure about this).

You might consider the Line Blend too. It seems like you like high speeds and a lot of carving, the Blend out-carves the Chronic even though it has a wider waist.

yea ok, im at 5'9" 140 lbs, last year i was around 130.  I've hit plenty of jumps and I've never had problems with my legs *knock on wood*

I've actually banged up my upper body more than my lower body.

chronics are a super versatile ski, great on groomers, kill it in the park and can still handle some pow. i'd go for chronics for sure.

Yea I would definately look into the Scartch Ghettos.  They are fairly light, stiff enough to be an all mountain ski and perform great in the park.  When I bought mine last year I demod almost all park skis  and for a "park" ski they riped everwhere on the mountain better than ever other ski I rode

get the chronic or the sprayer...chronic if u like a stiff ski, sprayer if u like a soft ski

Thanks very much for all of the responses.
I just got home from work so I think it will take a while to soak everything in.
I was also looking at the Volkl's. They do look like some pretty sweet skis.

Yes I am a beanpole but I'm also very athletic. I've taken the same risks as some of my buddies and they are the ones coming out with concussions and the dislocated shoulders, etc. I can hold my own...


I guess the overall consensus is a 174-180 in length. I normally ski a 178ish. Do Twins ride shorter than usual?

Troublemakers, or Scratch FS (or whatever they call the new one) if you want a bit more width. Both ski very nicely - good groomer skis if you like to rip them.

So I just bought my new boots: 06/07 Salomon SPK's.

As far as skis I have decided to narrow in on:
1. Rossignol Scratch FS WRS (Rossi binding??)
2. Dynastar Troublemaker with Look px12
3. Volkl Wall (i just can't take my eyes off of these skis...) with Look px12
4. Moment Reno (not sure if its a possibility due to availability)

Is there a binding similar to the px12 anywhere? Or is it just the better of the jib bindings?

Thanks again for all the input. Any final words on these 4 sets of skis?

the Walls for sure, with the px12s would be great. I think Salomon bindings are  lighter, the STH series, but I have seen many durability problems with Salomon bindings in the past.

out of the 4 skis you mentioned i'd go with the volkl walls, but i'd take in account the brigdes too... and don't rule out the chronic. px12's or jibs will be fine.

Was really considering the Elan MO2 but I closed in on a pair of 174 Scratch FS WRS so my ski hunt is over. Just need some binders. Thinking of the Rossi 120s...

nordica ignitions would be good for you too they are great on groomers becuase of there sidecut and kill it in the park
