New iPod Nano Durable Enough to Ski with?

Well, my old shuffle that i've had for years has finally broke and now I am stuck between the decision of getting the new shuffle, or the new iPod Nano. What I loved about the old shuffle was the durablity, this thing was unbreakable. Although for school and stuff when I am really bored I would love to just mess around and watch videos on the Nano. My biggest concern is the Nano's durability. I would like to take my mp3 player skiing and I am just wondering what you guys think. I know the shuffle will hold up fine, but will the nano be ok to ski with in cold temperatures. For past iPod users how is the durability of previous, and maybe even this generation of nanos?

it should last pretty well my old nano worked well until it fell out of my pocket and i skied over it

get a warranty tho ull like it

well i know the last generations have had a problem like the rest with the headphone jack going one channel.  i just got a new one though and i dropped it onto a stone hearth from standing height and all there is is a little scratch.  didn't turn it off or anything.  not sure how it will do in cold though.  never had a problem with anything in the cold other than battery life.  oh yeah.  the battery life is soooo sweet.  gone a week with out charging it and i use it at school all day.

I skied over my old generation Nano last season. It has a scratch on it now. If you're worried about falling on it, I can't imagine it would break unless something really weird happens. I've fallen on my Nano skating a few times and it's been unscathed. The thing is pretty darn durable.

I have the 1st gen
I got it like 2 years ago and I've never had a problem with it. Dropped it and everything.

I've taken my first gen everywhere, skiing, running, hiking. Never have used a case, but a waterproof one might be a good idea to be honest. I tomahawked into a small tree chest first last season coming off a bad landing, and it now has a little bend to one side. Other than that, its solid. Good little machines those.

i rock the shuffle, i lost it in pow once for 15 minutes, still works, landed on it so many times, it still works

Both nanos and shuffles have flash drives in the instead of hard drives like the ipod video or classic.  This is good because there is no moving parts like a hard drive. If you bump or drop an ipod with a hard drive in it, it can easily by damaged and not work, making these ipods bad for skiing.
However flash drives are a better alternative for skiing because there are no moving parts and can take more of a beating.

I would say go ahead and get the nano because it should be able to take the same abuse that your shuffle took.  Besides the fact that you may break the screen if you fall on it.

they both have flash memory which makes them good to ski with
so its just a question of how much money you want to spend

it's okay. mine got pretty fucked up over time just from general wear and tear. Also the battery dies way fast cuz its so little and it gets way cold.

I ski with my 2 year old 30 gig, the cold zaps the battery a little quicker but when you warm it up with your hands you get it back, go figure. Im really suprised how well my 30 has held up over the years, I drop it multiple times a week and sometimes a day on bad days. Its really scracthed up but no dents or anything and works fine. I'm not sure how different the nano is, but id say it'd be Fine!

i think the only ipod with cold problems is the video because it has acctual moving parts that can freeze up.

my old nano (the rectangular one) is absolutely bomb proof... I have been skiing with is and generally abusing it for its whole life and still demands more punishment.  I wouldnt hesitate to use a new nano skiing.

samething happened to me.i used to have a shuffle(the clip ones)and it was indistructible but the washing machine got the upper hand.but i decided to get a new 80g and it seems pretty bombproof.im pretty confident about taking it skiing but i heard that if they get cold they like lose all theere battery but i dont know about that.as long as you dont fall onto a rock i think it should be fine.

just get a nano cause even if the screen does break which will probly be the only thing that has a chance of breaking, your nano just turned into a shuffle. so either way, your golden.

I got a touch bout a month ago and if its any test to how durable they make em, id say go for it. My touch is insanely durable, so im assuming the nano would be way better durability wise.

id say go with the nano. i hav a first generation nano and the thing is indestructable. i have one of those clear cases that cost like 15$ and ive fallen on it dropped it, even rode by bike over it by accident and the thing is perfectly fine.
