Who wears there pole ropes on there hand tied up?
The other day my friend told me that its unsafe having the pole ropes on your hands if you're trying big stuff. because you can screw up when you're in the air and land with the pole right infront of you and hurt yourself alot.
(nailing your stomach)
I myself have it tied up because I think it feels more secure so it won't fall off. but most of my friends don't use the rope thing for the pole...
what do you do?
keep skiing

I usually dont, Im scared of breaking my wrists or impaling myself. Its pretty amazing I usually hold onto both of my poles throughout pretty knarly crashes.

ive planted the pole in the landing several times and hit myself in the face mouth and stomach, but i would have done that anyway if my strap was off. and if you dont put your strap on you drop them all over the landing then you have to hike up and get them and hold everyone up, and when you grab oyu can drop them

Yeah I keep my poles tied up, but your friend is right. Onetime i landed crooked with my pole stuck down in front of me. I nearly broke my tooth (i only at a weird angle now) and scratched my lip and face. I think that was rare, and I still keep my poles tied up because it's a pain to hike back and get your poles. It really up to you.

i use mine, i drop my poles for no reason if im in the air or even if im just standing there, and for grabs it makes it easier to not have to worry about dropping your poles

I once forgot to put it on when i was skiing out west and the pole got wipped out of my hand, and i stubled to grab it, then falling into the powder and rolling down the hill. Then having to hike back up to get it in waist deep snow SUCKS

I used to wear my straps... then my pole jammed into the ice on top of a table during a backflip gone wrong and displaced my thumb about three inches.

you can still impale yourself with your poles wether they are off or not, if you plant your pole in the snow on a landing its going to stick there and hit you whether your strap is on or not, and its sooo annoying when someone wipes out and takes them a half hour to clean up all their stuff or hike back up the jump

I always wear my straps. I just don't feel right without them...
Plus, I don't want a pole flying through the air loose and landing pointy side up... at least if they're attached the worst that will happen is get a grip in the chest.

Yeah whenever I'm too lazy to put my straps on, I end up dropping a pole on the way down... and worse yet it usually takes me a good 5 seconds to realise I dropped it, which results in much useless hiking.

I use a mono pole for skiing in the pipe. Ya know, one of those 7 footers? It's sick because you can kinda do like a pole vault off of the coping. Try it.

way back in the day (well no, actually more like 3 years ago) i never wore my pole straps... but than when i learned how to spin i kept fucking up on landing and for some reason whip my poles. they'd just go flying in a random direction - threatening to take people out... so than i started wearing them - now i just do it by habit without thinking...

Nope, rarely wear them. I don't have a problem dropping them doing grabs or when i wreck unless it is an insane crash, then everything goes. The only time i wear them is when i do a comp, just so if something wrong happens, i dont loose points fro dropping them, and i wear them down steep hills that it would really suck to walk up. Other than that, im paranoid, it's gonna mess up my wrists...

i love poles with straps! hahah last year i had Leki poles that had the things that like clipped on to your gloves, and yeah.. needless to say i lost them, so then like every time i would spin i would always drop my poles.. according to my friends it was pretty funny to watch, but yeah it wasnt too funny when i had to hike back up the hill for the stupid things.. now i just use scott poles with punk studs on them! haha which only comes after the lesson i got from Jeremy Fenno on how to wear my poles right.

i have poles that there are no straps so u just slip ur hand like into this cool rubber thing. they really old poles but i like them. i wouldnt use pole straps even if i DID have them. my dad's friend told me a story about him skiing really fasst catching an edge then falling. when he fell he let go of the pole of course but he had the strap on. as he fell the pole was behind him and he fell back and the pole went straight into his leg. he couldnt even pull it out himself it was stuck in so hard. and that is why i go NO straps.
